    " The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta rides up from the Caribbean beaches to Colon and Bolivar peaks at 5,775 metres above sea level. It ascends through narrow valleys with rivers of crystal clear waters,, deserts, rainforests, moorland and perpetual snows. It is surrounded by the Caribbean sea, the dry plains of La Guajira and the grasslands that border the Magdalena and Cesar rivers."

    This is where we are now. It is the oldest city in Columbia celebrating it's 500th th year in 2025. Of course, I should make it clear that before Spanish colonialism, the Santa Marta region was a sophisticated, highly developed territory inhabited primarily by the Tayrona people. They built advanced, large-scale stone cities like Ciudad Perdida featuring terraces, roads, and agricultural systems. They were known for skilled goldsmithing and pottery.
