    Sights of Rio

    February 5 in Brazil ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Our trip to Rio is little more than a stopover before flying to Bogota to start another big adventure. We decided to take an organised tour of some of the highlights this huge city has to offer. Carnival is imminent but we will miss the celebrations although Harriet and Eliot will be in the thick of it!Read more

  • Rio de Janeiro

    February 4 in Brazil ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

Another flight today; this time to Rio. At this stage of the trip I'm almost punch drunk at the amount we've seen, done and travelled. We had such a wonderful time with Hatti and Eliot but now it's time to part ways for a while.Read more

  • Mendoza to Santiago

    January 30 in Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

A long day. 8 to 10 hours on a coach travelling over the Andes. Iconic but tough. Santiago feels very different from Mendoza. We're only here until Sunday so it's a whistle stop trip you might say. On the way into Santiago we saw acres of new solar farms being readied for service. Wow! Wait till Trump hears about that?!Read more

  • Mount Fitzroy

    January 21 in Argentina ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

Today, we set out with a local guide, in bright sunshine to cover the distance to the base of Mount Fitz Roy, whose summit is almost permanently covered in clouds but not today! The mountain reaches 3405 metres and we hiked to the base at around 1200 metres. Its forests and slopes are home to a unique array of wildlife, including the huemel (a small deer) and the majestic condor. The scale and grandeur of this setting made this walk truly amazing.
Our total ascent and descent was approximately 950m / 3150ft, over a distance of 26 kilometres / 16.1 miles. It took us about nine hours.

  • Torres del Paine

    January 17 in Chile ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

A relaxed day today after yesterday's exertion. I'm feeling healthy with no muscle ache which surprised me! We took a short bus ride out to see a waterfall near Lake Pehoe then headed to Mirador Cuernos up a steep, partly gravel path, where we saw the outline of the Valle del Frances. The weather was very wet and windy!Read more
