    Since travelling through the Catlins we have been looking for penguins. Isi read about a yellow-eyed penguin colony in Oamaru so we decided to try our luck there. Penguins leave their nests at dawn to go fishing and usually return anytime between two hours before sunset and sunset which was supposed to be at 5 pm. We went to the spot Isi read about at 3 pm. When we arrived we spotted a chinese golden pheasant. We ended up waiting for just under 2 hours in the cold and nearly walked off when Jake spoted a penguin in the water.
