    We took the car out for a ride to Eastbourne. First we stopped at Day's Bay and had a coffee at the beach. Afterwards we went for a walk along the coast where we saw lots of goats on the cliffs 🐐

    We hiked up Brooklyn Hill to see some old WW2 bunkers and the Brooklyn wind turbine. The original wind turbine was the oldest operating wind turbine in New Zealand. 🌬

  • The Southern Cross

    The Southern Cross Garden Bar and Restaurant was Isi's work place for the last 5 months.
    I loved my time there especially because of all the friends I made. Having a couple of drinks together after closing and going for brunch with the girls was always good fun. I'm gonna miss them all! 🥂Read more

  • Weekend Trip to Taupo

    We both asked for some time off work and went to Taupo for a long weekend. We stayed with our friends Steve and Rachel who we were wwoofing with over Christmas and New Year's last year. We cooked great food together, like steak, chilli and pizza, had lots of coffee and beers, went for a walk on the lake, had awesome ice cream at the Honey Hive 🐝, went to the hot pools at the Wairakei Terraces and had lots of cuddles with Greg and Mr Jones 🐶🐶Read more

  • Van Gogh Exhibition

    We went to an outdoor exhibition on Vincent Van Goghs paintings and life. The paintings were projected in big scale on shipping containers with background music.

  • Halloween Party

    We had a Halloween Party at our hostel. Isi had to work in the evening and only got to do the mummy race. We lost and Jake felt a bit dizzy afterwards but it was great fun anyway.

  • Orcas

    We saw Orcas! 🐳
    There were three of them, the mother with two calves. We were really lucky to see them so close to the city. They were swimming along the shore hunting stingrays. They were actually quite a bit closer than it looks on the pictures. The last picture is from Isi's friend Hanna who had a better camera.Read more

  • Last Week in Wellington

    All good things come to an end. It's time to leave our hostel Trek and Wellington. Here are a few pictures from our last week. We went for brunch with Jakes work mates, had another dinner with our friends from the free food store and went bouldering. On Friday night we had a pot luck and goodbye dinner with all our hostel friends.

    We finally started our road trip again. Our first stop after Wellington was Whanganui. We found this most amazing playground right next to where we camped for the night.

    On the way into Whanganui we saw a beautiful sunset. We walked up the Durie Hill Tower from where we had a nice view over the city. Afterwards we went for a stroll around Whanganui.

  • Surf Highway 45

    Surf Highway 45, the 100 km long route around Taranaki's coast, connects Hawera in the South to New Plymouth in the North. It gets it's name from all the surf beaches in between.
    Unfortunately we didn't have the best weather for this route but it was beautiful nonetheless.
    We stopped at Kaupokonui Beach and took a picture of an Oystercatcher, Cape Egmont Lighthouse and saw the Wreck of the Gairloch.

  • Paritutu Rock

    We climbed up Paritutu Rock on New Plymouth's coast. It's only 156m high but it's a very fun and steep climb to the top. From the top we had a great view over New Plymouth, Mount Taranaki and the Sugar Loaf Islands.Read more
