A lovely first evening in Cochin. Great Keralan cooking experience with Rosy and Francis followed by drinks at the Old harbour hotel where we are staying.

Amazing guide to Kochi’s history this morning and this afternoon we cycled around the working life of Kochi including the laundry, sweet shop and poppadom maker! Quite scary between the cars, motorbikes, tuk tuks and cars.Meer informatie

After a gruelling but amazing yoga session with our new friends we arrived at the beautiful Spice Tree near Munnar for a relaxing afternoon of tea tasting and a hike to watch the sunset.

Another amazing day in the rea plantations. A slightly bumpy ride on the tuk tuk through the tea, a lovely walk to where the workers live, then a visit to the tea factory.
Our guide then took us to Sristi, a charitable company set up by Tata for differently abled people where they make paper from recycled elephant dung, a fibre left over from making tea, carrot leaves and eucalyptus amongst others. They also dye and block print wonderful fabrics.
The shops were glad we came…

What a wonderful tour of Mysuru today. A drive up to Chamundi Hill in the early morning to see the local Royal family’s temple, a trip back down to see the bull Nandi and on to the Amba Vilas Palace which was stunning.
We visited the busy Devaraja Market to see flowers, vegetables, spices and oils being sold.
We had lunch at the most wonderful vegetarian Indian restaurant, sharing a table with our driver and friend Unni and a wonderful Indian family.

Today we visited a local family temple to experience a Theyyam festival, when god visits a temple in the form of a human. What an amazing ceremony. The lovely families welcomed us so warmly and explained about their rituals ending with a blessing from the god. Thanks to Unni, our wonderful driver for arranging this.Meer informatie

    7 februari, Indië 🌙 25 °C

We left beautiful Kahani Paradise and travelled to Goa to pick up the 8 hour train to Mumbai.

We were very sad to say goodbye to our lovely friend and driver Unni.

The train was much comfier and cleaner than the steam train we travelled on 32 years ago!
We arrived in Mumbai just as India beat the USA in the cricket World Cup and got caught up in the traffic. Hoping to bump into the England cricket team at breakfast, apparently they are staying in our hotel…

What a day!! Out a 5am to the colourful and noisy fish, fruit, veg, newspaper, and flower markets and then to the laundry.
Then to pick up my 2 dresses for the wedding, then a fascinating tour of Mumbai and screeching home to learn our second wedding dance.
    Exhausting but fun!

Thank you Viraj and Nidhi for inviting us to your Haldi.

Again there was much dancing, henna hand painting or hendhi, and the bride and groom being covered in turmeric to cleanse and ward off negative energy and a symbol of moving to married life. Viraj’s friends then covered him in all sorts of things like ketchup, honey, flour and water!

Another night at the cricket, this time the West Indues were too good for us, but at least we had a free curry and beer!
And Esther and I were filmed watching the team get a six which turned into a catch and out. Not sure we will ever see the footage…
