• 4. Strasbourg: Municipal archives

    19–20 Ağu 2024, Fransa ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

I emailed the mayor of Insviller, and she said the information I'm looking for can be obtained via email; I don't have to go there. So, for today, I decided to go to the mayor of Strasbourg. Once there, I was referred to the municipal archives. When I got there, it was around noon, and I spent the afternoon there. I really missed my calling! I should have become a professor so that I could do research. -- The clerk was very helpful, and there were 3 times that I stumped even him, but eventually, he figured it out. There was a type of "compendium" that had been compiled by high school students. From that, the information found according to the census of 1789, the address found was used to find the person's residence by quarter, and if they were an owner or renter, their occupation, as well as their "tribe," which is basically their social class (military, peasant, bourgeois etc.) I skimmed through all the names and found "Albrecht, Bast, Gerber." I have no idea who these people are, I just did this activity today for fun, and to get some understanding of the method.Okumaya devam et
