9. La Ferme Rothof

Goal for today: finding Jean Gerber's farm in Rothof. He was born in 1742 and if memory serves me correctly, he was our great-great-great-great grandfather. (I forgot my documents in Canada about the genealogy that I got from Lorraine Roth.) I mapped out the trek, and wrote it out by hand because I didn't think that I would get a very good GPS signal where I was going. Of course, the streets and roads had no signs, so that was a challenge. The main road, D27, had many signs, but that was about it. At one point, I was in the forest, and luckily, a lumberjack, Stephen, was there sawing logs. He helped me figure out which direction I needed to go, so I turned around, and continued straight. I recognized the images from Google Maps of the final destination. I was relieved to find the farm, but very disappointed to find it very dilapidated. Whoever owns it uses it for the land and as a junk yard to fix cars. There was the very strong smell of fire. As I left, I saw a heap of brush still smoldering.Leia mais
