    Ohakune to Napier

    12.–14. feb., New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Wednesday we travelled to Napier on the east coast. It was destroyed in 1931 by an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the richter scale. The town was rebuilt between 1931 and 1933 in the style of art deco and is the best example in the world. It didn't disappoint. There was a 1931 festival starting when we were there with visitors coming from all over new zealand, dressing up in costume and a grand display of 1930s cars.

On the way over we travelled on a quiet mountain pass road with some stunning views. 123km and it seemed to take forever with no villages and no coffee stop ☹️.

ReisendeWe did find a nice cafe just before we got to Napier. I had a beef sausage roll and Lynn had carrot cake. All the cakes were exquisitely decorated.
