It is finally happening. The great AT trip is finally underway. Currently at LA airport waiting for the connecting flight to Washington, the onto Bangor in Maine.

Arrive at midnight in Bangor and the shuttle leaves in that arvo, so I'll be staying in a hotel. Feeling very frazzled right now, was given the 3rd degree by immigration (they really want an address where I'll be staying. "camping wherever" doesn't go down well with them), took a while to find my pack (but the time I was released by immigration, the other passengers had all collected their luggage and left, and the airport staff had cleared the carousel), then I couldn't find a quick way to get into LA and back in time for my flight. Just decided to play it safe and sit at the airport instead.

I'm thinking I'll stay an extra day in Bangor so I can take my time buying supplies and do some extra planning for the first part of the trail.

Things to note in LAX - the PA keeps announcing that there is to be no soliciting at the airport. Scavenging out of the bins is also banned according to the signage.

Also some guy tripped over backwards on the escalator. I was behind him and managed to catch him by his shoulders and keep his head from colliding with the steps. All his luggage spilled down the escalator like an avalanche though. He didn't really thank me either, just seemed deeply embarrassed. Oh well, you are welcome Guy.

Security at the airport is overdone and not as efficient as at Sydney. It was more of a process going through domestic security here than international at Sydney.

LAX up your passenger processing game!
