• Day 43 - North Conway

    15 augustus 2024, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Today I'd started out with Mike from Mizpah Spring Hut and Campsite. Hayden was going to head out a bit later.

More bear propaganda on the trail. Still no actual bears.

Looking at the map we expected an easy and quick hike to the road but it was so much further and difficult than expected. Hiked over Mt Jackson and Mt Webster without issue, it was the descent to the road that was more difficult and felt way longer than the map indicated.

An older woman was on the track and having difficulty with some of the climbing. Mike helped her up at various sections.

We emerged a couple of miles from Mike's car, we should have taken a side path to reach it earlier. There was another hiker whom we had been chatting with on the trail, and Mike asked him for a lift down the road but he declined to help us. What a dick! Made it as awkward as possible for him as he was driving out of the carpark and we were just standing there in the rain.

After much discussion we decided to try hitch hiking, something neither of us had done before. Stood there with our thumbs out for 20 minutes trying to not look like serial killers before someone pulled over. Two gentlemen from Montreal kindly offered to help us. Such awesome lads!

Had lunch with Mike at the Sea Dog Brewing Company. Burger, fries (did not make the mistake of ordering "chips" this time!) and beer.

Mike dropped me off at the Yankee Clipper Moter Inn. The place was extremely recommended on the hiking app, and yes it was both cheap and high quality. Recommend it.

Due to the popularity of the bonus pictures, I've added one of another hikers puppy.
