This time we went thru the original locks. The trains seemed to be used to keep the ships in the middle of the lock and not for moving the ships thru the locks.

Well it was supposed to be Ecudor, this is as closest we got. With all the recent violence the cruise line canceled the port of call. On the plus side, the sea has been very calm.

Trujillo

I was shocked by this small town. You can tell the people here do not have much money but it has perfect weather year round with no rain, the high today is 78 with a low of 70, they is no trash on the streets, there are no homeless people, no beggars, no crime, it feels safe and the people seem happy. There is also nothing here to see as a tourist.

On the last picture, one of these ships is $1,000 a night and the other on is $100 a night, not sure what the other $900 a night gets you.Read more

Lima is a big city with big city problems, I don't really recommend visiting it. The pictures of the house is a house built 500 years ago and has changed very little over the years. The last picture is a bulk carrier unloading system. The crane unloads the cargo from the ship into the top of the funnels. Then trucks drive under the funnels to load the product onto the trucks.Read more

Looks like a desert but again has great weather. It is 80 degrees and the tour guide is complaining how hot it is. The last picture is sand boarding.

First city in Chile and it already seems better then Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Panama and Mexico. On a side note the ocean water all along South America is a green gray color, it is not blue. There is an ocean current that runs from Antarctica to the equator that brings lots of nutrients. So I think the ocean water is full of plankton.Read more

In the 1800s a large English speaking population emigrated here and parts of the town does feel English. The tour guide said it rained on only two days all last year

First city in South America that I would recommend, but only if you live within a two hour drive.
Parts of this city made me feel like I was back in California except that there was only one white person walking around, me. :) Even found another cat.Read more

Hotel Castillo Medieval

Stayed here for $55 a night. Has a cat you can pet and an avocado tree growing outside my room. This place is fun and cheesy at the same time.

Part of this city has a lot of graffiti, but some of it was very impressive.

Termas Del Plomo

This lake is man made and is the drinking water for Santiago. The last picture shows what the water looks like in town. The guide said the river water in town is polluted with toxic minerals. There as been a lot of mining in the area so I am guessing heavy metals have been leached out of the mine tailings.

There is a large mine here and the trucks carry 50 to 75 thousands dollars of ore per truck.Read more

Turns out museums are not as interesting when everything is in Spanish.
The last picture is a hotdogs with guacamole. I was shocked when I saw so many people ordering it, and I have never seen guacamole served on a hotdog. Turns out putting guacamole on a hotdog is a bad idea.Read more

I think Santiago is a nice city to live and work in but there are better places to go on vacation. The trip to the Galápagos Islands and Machu Picchu was a much better trip.

Flight to Buenos Airs

When I got off the plane in Buenos Aires I thought I might have gotten on the wrong flight. The airport in Buenos Aires is one of the nicest airports I have been to. So far things in Buenos Aires are much better then I expected, will know more in three weeks.Read more

So far Buenos Aires seems like a city from Spain and it seems nice, clean, safe city. Which is even more surprising when you consider the inflation rate here is 200 percent a year.

Nice city but not a lot for a tourist. In the last picture it looks like the Montevideo fishing fleet was sunk in the harbor from a storm. I later realized the ships where sunk deliberately as a warning to other ship of the shallow water.Read more
