  • Zambujeira

    28.–30. kesäk. 2024, Portugali ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

We are moving north through Portugal and we stopped at Camping Villa park Zambujeira, which is a large campsite with all the facilities. We didn't rate the campsite that highly as it was a little noisy than we are used to, but the facilities were good and they accept ACSI card which made it 17euro per night. The village is right on the coast and its quite pretty with all white houses and shops etc. We couldn't believe our eyes when we first saw the beach it is a deadringer for a Cornish cove. We loved the hikes along the coastal path and discovered lots of beautiful beaches. We even got the Cornish weather!Lue lisää

  • Comporta

    30. kesäk.–1. heinäk. 2024, Portugali ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

We stopped at a free Aire at Comporta, its a small village very upmarket with a posh centre filled with expensive restaurants and craft shops. There is a nature reserve next to it. On our walk through the village we spotted some storks nesting on top of a building. There is also a huge beach close by where you can rent a sunbed and parasol for 35 euros for the ones at the back upto 120euro for the all singing dancing ones. Unsurprisingly we opted for a nice walk along the beach instead. I think its proximity to Lisbon keeps the prices high here.Lue lisää

  • Nazare

    1.–2. heinäk. 2024, Portugali ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We have wanted to come to Nazare since we saw the huge waves in the surfing competition's that are held here. The waves are some of the biggest ever seen anywhere in the world, some reaching over 100ft. The town is split in two with the upper part high on top of the cliff and the main lower part with a massive golden sand beach both sides. There is a venicular railway that takes you up from the lower end. There is a famous lighthouse at the top which you can have a look around, and is a great vantage point from which to watch the surfers from. We stayed overnight in a free parking place for motorhomes just outside the town on top of the cliffsLue lisää

  • Batalha

    2. heinäkuuta 2024, Portugali ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Just a quick first stop of the day to check out the pretty town of Batalha and its impressive Monastery.

  • Costa de Lavos

    2. heinäkuuta 2024, Portugali ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We wanted one last beach stop in Portugal before we headed inland on our way back to Spain. This village has a very popular free motorhome Aire with all the facilities right next to the beach. The beach is golden sand backed by sand dunes that run for miles in both directions. There is a great beach bar and restaurant just at the end of the aire that we had a lovely meal in, watching the sun go down. This is a place we will come back to in the future.Lue lisää

  • Viseu

    3. heinäkuuta 2024, Portugali ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

We decided to start heading for the border of Spain and stopped for lunch in the town of Viseu. It has a pretty old town to walk around, as is becoming routine, we visited the cathedral which has the highest ceiling in Portugal. We had a nice snack in one of the side street's with drinks and some takeaway cakes for the grand total of 7.75euro . Making Portugal the cheapest destination yet.Lue lisää

  • Vila da Ponte

    3.–4. heinäk. 2024, Portugali ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Our journey north east to the border took us to the village of Vila da Ponte, it's a stunning location right next to a large lake with a beach for swimming, the water is warm so we enjoyed an early evening swim. There is a board walk that runs around one side of the lake for 2km and lots of walks leading off through Vineyards. Our pitch was under a pine tree overlooking the lake, definitely one of the best locations we have ever had, only one other van staying the night.Lue lisää

  • Braganca

    4.–5. heinäk. 2024, Portugali ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Our last stop this year is Braganca. We parked in a nice aire just below the medieval castle. The old town is completely surrounded by the town wall which you can walk all the way round. The Castle itself is in very good condition and is only 4euro to visit, we decided to stay the night and move on to Spain Friday.Lue lisää

  • Astorga

    5.–6. heinäk. 2024, Espanja ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

For our next stop we headed for Astorga as we wanted to visit the Palace of Gaudí Astorga, which was designed by Gaudi in the late 19th century. We found a great park up at an Aire behind a bull ring, close to the town.Lue lisää

  • Saint Martin

    6.–7. heinäk. 2024, Espanja ⋅ 🌫 13 °C

We headed for the Coast of Northern Spain stopping at the small village of Saint Martin. It's at the start of some great hikes with huge mountains with great rock climbing opportunities. We parked in a free Aire close to the town. The journey down here was challenging, we had to negotiate very narrow roads through villages and lots of winding roads over the highest mountains we have ever driven over completely surrounded by clouds and lots of misty rain. We spotted vultures above us and cattle in the middle of roads, even wild mountain dogs came close to our motorhome as we were climbing, but glad we did it as it's an experience not to be missed.Lue lisää

  • Lastres

    7.–8. heinäk. 2024, Espanja ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Last stop on the coast in Spain, we found a great place to park for the night, no services but within walking distance of the stunning village of Lastres. It has a beautiful centre with lots of alleyways to explore on your way down to the harbour and beach. It's perfect for a one night stopover.Lue lisää

  • El Puente

    8.–9. heinäk. 2024, Espanja ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

For our last stop in Spain we came slightly inland to a great camperstop called Bidaivan camper park. To be fair it's more like a campsite as it has a pool and bar as well as free hire of bikes all for 15euros! We decided to walk the hike along the river all the way to the coast and back.Lue lisää

  • Bayonne

    9.–10. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Our first stop back in France took us to Bayonne. We had a horrendous journey to get there, what should have been a two hour journey turned into four and a half hours. As soon as we got across the border the traffic was very slow and it was gridlocked around Bayonne. By the time we got to the Aire it was very busy so we were crammed in. Bayonne promenade next to the Aire is great for walking, and has a long beach going in both directions.Lue lisää

  • Seignosse

    10.–12. heinäk. 2024 ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Our first CCP Aire on our way back up France and a great choice, it's set in pine trees with plenty of space to spread out. It's an easy 1km walk to the fabulous beach. There was a surfing competition going on when we arrived. If you prefer you can walk to a massive lake which has four beaches and a path that goes all the way round.Lue lisää

  • Gastes

    12.–13. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Shout out to Jacky and Tim for this stop as it looked good when they went there. One of the best CCP Aires we have stayed at, located next to a marina and large lake. There is loads of room to park, we got a front pitch right by the marina. We took a hike around some of the lake which also has a great beach for swimming. There are a couple of bars and restaurants locally. Unfortunately we chose to stay at the wrong time as there was a large community event taking place that evening in the field next to us with fireworks at 11pm and really loud music till 2am so not very restful but would definitely come back again.Lue lisää

  • Fontet

    13.–14. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We found a gem of an Aire in Fontet traveling north east towards Brittany. It has all the services including showers for the princely price of 14 Euros. The Aire is next to the Garonne canal with a small lake that has a beach so you can swim in it. There is a pretty marina and you can park pretty much anywhere as the site is massive. We decided to go for a hike along the Canal and to explore a couple of villages along the way.Lue lisää

  • Jarnac Champagne

    14.–15. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We needed to get a good phone signal for our next stop as we wanted to watch the England game and the tennis final so we headed for a CCP at Jarnac. It turned out a very good choice as the Aire had a very good signal and was less than half full, it also has showers which is a bonus for a Aire. The site is set next to a small pool and playground right in the village with vineyards all around, a very pleasant setting.Lue lisää

  • Chatellaillon Plage

    15.–16. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Another nice CCP Aire near the coast in a nice resort with lots going on as we later found out, we decided to follow a hiking route we found on the alltrails app which follows the coast around a headland and back 10 miles in all. We noticed the town was setting up for a fete for later that evening. Around about 11pm we were treated to a fabulous firework display from the safety of our bed!Lue lisää

  • Port neuf

    16.–17. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Just a short drive along the coast to Port neuf, close to La Rochelle, it a great cheap Aire that's more like a campsite. We have been meaning to visit La Rochelle for quite a few years but never really had the opportunity before so this is a great stop to walk into the town and explore. La Rochelle has a huge harbour area with thousands of sailing boats moored up, it has a nice promenade with restaurants and bars overlooking the harbour. Set back from the front is a busy shopping district with lots of alleyways and streets which gives the place a vibrant feel.Lue lisää

  • Saint - Lumine-de-Coutais

    17.–18. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We found this quiet park up on search for sites, it's just on the edge of a small village on a lovely picnic area set up specially for motorhomes, a very beautiful location set among nature. The village has a nice bakery and a small shop. There are lots of walks locally, but it's a great place just to kick back and take it easy.Lue lisää

  • Vannes

    18.–19. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

I was recommended Vannes by my good friend Rob who knows the area well, we stopped at another CCP aire which is in a great location next to a few beaches and within walking distance of the vibrant town of Vannes. We walked in after lunch and spent a nice afternoon exploring the harbour and medieval city, in the evening we walked around the small peninsula close to our Aire with all the locals out enjoying the late sunLue lisää

  • Gavres

    19.–20. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We moved further along the coast into Brittany, onto the peninsula of Gavres. The CCP Aire is huge so we had plenty of space to sit outside. We went for a lovely walk around the coastal path all the way around the peninsula, the weather was perfect and the Brittany coast has never looked better, reminds us of the Roseland peninsula in Cornwall.Lue lisää

  • Pont Aven

    20.–21. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We travelled further into Brittany to the CCP Aire at Pont Aven. It's a very popular honey pot of a town that reminds me of some of the peak district towns we have in the UK. Unfortunately we didn't get to explore much on the first day as we had quite a few showers but made up for it the next day. The town itself is stunning with lots of pretty buildings. There seems to be a lot of Art Galleries. There is a river that snakes thru the town where there are many boats moored up.Lue lisää

  • Saint Goazec

    21.–22. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Traveling inland we decided to stop at the CCP Aire on the edge of the village of Saint Goazec. There isn't much in the village itself but it is on the Brest-Nantes canal, which has a brilliant towpath on which you can hike or ride for miles in either direction. The Aire has good facilities as it used to be a campsite so it was a good stop for one night.Lue lisää

  • Rostrenen

    22.–23. heinäk. 2024, Ranska ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We have been looking forward to visiting our friends Robert and Emma who run a successful b&b on the Brest -Nantes canal, in a beautiful setting not far from the small town of Rostrenen. It was great to catch up with them and we can't thank them enough for making our stay with them perfect from start to finish.Lue lisää
