    Breadcrumbs

    October 8, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Not much to see here folks. I just wanted to make the travel tracking map start in the right place.
For the record, the airport was super smooth. Our biggest delay was trying to decide whether to buy Amarula at the duty free store..
Also for the record this will be my first trip with my own private travel agent. Happy days!

  • Under the sea

    October 9, 2023 in Japan ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

Tokyo DisneySea - notoriously popular, notoriously busy. Low season, a weekday and rain predicted all day.... Would this deter the locals? Would this deter us? Time would tell.

Ok time told. We ticked all our boxes then chose the evening executive lounge at the Hilton over the nighttime show in the rain. Despite the rain it was a really lovely day with a perfect mix of early rides, time to investigate the local merch/snack offerings and relaxed meals.Read more

  • Tokyo Hilton Baymax

    October 10, 2023 in Japan ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

Final day of our Japanese stopover. We stayed at the Hilton to max out our Diamond years while they last. It is a fantastic hotel and, besides not getting the Happy 15 minutes, it proved to be a very convenient base for Disney.
Today was all about Baymax.. and Tokyo Disneyland. We bought Baymax hats, accessories, rides and we even ate him. We tried new rides not found in the other parks and then talked our way back into the executive lounge after check-out to chill until our "limousine" (bus) arrived.

  • Sky meets the sea

    October 10, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

A confession: I booked a night at Waikiki because I forgot that we were crossing the international date line so going back a day despite an overnight flight from Tokyo. Rather than rebooking everything we decided to spend a night in Waikiki and take the opportunity to climb Diamond head the next morning. A nice oops!Read more

  • Every Trail I Track

    October 11, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We woke up early to climb Diamond Head. We certainly broke a sweat rushing up to the top to catch the sunrise but let's get one thing clear... This is not the wilderness folks! Yes it is steep and bumpy and there are a lot of stairs, but it's a 1.5 mile round-trip! All the pre-reading and observations on the day suggested that you need 10L of water in a CamelBak, hiking boots, poles, an EPIRB, glucose sachets and a Sherpa. We wore sandals and carried an iced latte to the top. 1.5 miles! You won't die!!!
From there it was back to the airport to pickup a hire car, off to Disney's Aulani Resort and then on to some serious adult spoiling time - a couples massage followed by a fancy sunset dinner.
So what was the highlight? Sunrise, sunset? No... it was jumping to the front of the queue of about 60 people at Hertz .

  • Back to the water

    October 12, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I had visions of playing Ko Olina Golf Course, but 5 hours was going to be a serious chunk of poolside time so I've added it to my list of things to do next time. We ventured across the road for dinner, but the rest of the time was spent at the resort. An early morning walk to start the day then eat, swim, read, snorkel, repeat.Read more

  • All aboard

    October 13, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Today we made it safely aboard Disney Wonder. Despite not having a show on the first night it proved to be a very exciting day. We decided to go all in and just pay for the photo package. To get our money's worth we have decided that this means we'll have to go all in for cruise activities and for the character meet n greets. The princesses were wonderful conversationalists but the highlight was Bel's performance in a Disney version of who wants to be a Mouseketeer!Read more

  • Disney Wonder Day 2

    October 15, 2023, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Today was our first full sea day. We LOVE sea days, but I'll mostly just stick to photos for these. Today was formal day so we spent lots of time chasing princesses and photographers!

  • Staying afloat

    October 15, 2023, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

Another relaxing sea day. The highlight today was shipbuilding! We have the duration of the cruise to complete our watercraft. These will then be launched into the swimming pool. The boat to keep a can of soda afloat the longest will win. Our prototype has begun.Read more

  • Equatorial bulge

    October 16, 2023, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Today we were converted from Pollywags to Shellbacks as we crossed the equator. We still haven't hit the water as we've been too busy at the various trivia events and making a few new friends.

  • Chicken Dinner

    October 17, 2023, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 29 °C

Another sea day. I'm still trying to find Dory without any luck. On a positive note I finally got my hands on a Winner's medallion. My team successfully rejected my distracting suggestions to come up trumps in 80s music Trivia. I will wear my medal for the rest of the cruise!Read more

  • Oi oi oi

    October 19, 2023, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We had our first experience of cultural cringe over the last 24 hrs. Andy Joy was the headline act. He's an Aussie who owns a piano bar in Melbourne (great bar by the way) who also dabbles as a cruise ship entertainer. It was his first Disney Cruise. It's hard to describe his act. In a big theatre it was a musical version of old standards mixed in with Benny Hill antics and dad jokes. It was really bad. In the smaller night time theatre it was completely different. He played and sang any song thrown at him and completely reversed the passengers expectations of the Australian entertainment scene. Phew! Good job Andy.Read more

  • Pago Pago

    October 19, 2023 in American Samoa ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

Pago Pago (pronounced ?Pongo Pongo -maybe due to the tuna cannery) was our first day release from the ship. The welcome was warm, but wet. We obviously had not made a sufficient sacrifice to Ra. Where are the kids when you need them?
(Probably should've "borrowed" one from Oceaneers' Club)
Hiking plans were washed away. It ended up being a speed dating style tour of the island with our super friendly but NESB taxi driver who we found on the day. The island is amazingly lush, with scattered colourful villages complete with roaming chickens and small crops.
Back on board it was pirate day. We didn't really get into the crazy dancing side of the celebrations, preferring to get some R&R.

  • Bula

    October 22, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Fiji turned on the sunshine for our river tubing adventure. It was a fun day cruising down the river listening to the Fijian boys tease each other relentlessly. It was mostly serene lazy river floating, but there were enough thrills and spills to keep the young at heart happy.Read more

  • Turtle Time

    October 24, 2023 in New Caledonia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Ok, my local 3 followers, you may have noticed a skipped day. Let's put that down to a pub crawl followed by mixology tasting. Soda water for the rest of the cruise!
Our ashore time was an afternoon affair which gave me time to freshen up before the choppy snap boat crossing to Signal Island. I'm eagerly awaiting the go-pro footage taken by our cruise buddy, Wayne. In the meantime here are some dodgy photos.Read more

  • Riff Rafft

    October 25, 2023, Coral Sea ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Our second last sea day. Time to get value for money on the photo package and tick off a few things not yet done. It was also time to see if our boat, Riff Rafft, was sea(pool) worthy.

  • T minus 1

    October 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

The last day of our holiday and of our cruise...sigh! At least l will get to see the dog when we get back.... and the kids.
They saved the best food and entertainment for last in typical Disney brainwashing fashion. Despite the end of holiday blues it was another fun day. Our recent near misses evolved into more trivia Glory in conjunction with our dual citizen buddies.Read more
