Moored here tonight, can't get into the port.
Eigg is located south of the Isle of Skye and north of the Ardnamurchan peninsula.
Size: It's the second largest of the Small Isles, with a length of about 5.5 miles and a width of 3 miles.
Community Ownership: In a landmark event in 1997, the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust, a partnership between the residents, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, and the Highland Council, purchased the island from its absentee landlord. This community buyout has led to a population increase and a revitalized economy.
Renewable Energy: Eigg is a pioneer in sustainable living. It has its own community-owned and managed electricity grid, which is powered almost entirely by a combination of wind, water, and solar energy.
Geology: The island's most distinctive feature is An Sgurr, a massive pitchstone ridge that dominates the skyline. This unique geological formation is the remnant of an ancient volcanic eruption.もっと詳しく
