    Worcester marina to Tibberton!

    September 22 in England ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

Well we arrived , the sun is out and we’re briefed on boat ! Unfortunately the ring can’t be done as one of the lock gates is being refurbished! ! So plans changed and we are going the other way ! We’re off late 430 and the guide says 3 and half-hours to Tibberton!
So we’re off , turn left and straight on …very straight ! Couple of locks and then I drive ! It’s straight and more locks - about 10 and it’s straight and it gets dark ! We arrive at 830 it’s very dark - pub food closed so beer and bed ! It’s been plus 4 hrs ! Hope tomorrow is just as exciting !

  • Day 2 - we’re lost on a canal !

    September 23 in England ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

So after a short night someone used the macerator at 615 and then the water pump and those machines are under us at the cheap end !
    It’s sunny !
    Breakfast was good !
It’s straight again and to Dunhampstead!
Oh no we’re not - no pub !
And the views …. Trees and bushes , glorious !
    Morning highlights ? A heron !
Strange digger boats trimming the reeds!
Forced the crew to stop to see
an old church with had a murder -at Oddingley! Nice windows and font and crenellations! Excitement !
    Then a short tunnel- oooh!
Not locks til Droitwich ! Ok but the pubs are there!
We head north and maybe a lunchtime stop and beer - nope ! It’s being refitted !
It’s a sharp left turn to Droitwich and finally some locks ! What fun! Another tunnel - ahh!
Swing bridges a plenty in the home of the salt mines !
Droitwich- home for us and Kevin Turvey!

Oh and I must mention Jerry reversing into the marina! Amazing - an 8 point turn !
Sadly missed lunch so it’s early supper and tomorrow we head back !

  • Day 4 -the last leg!

    September 24 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

So a quieter night , listening to football and no excitement of canugo!
We’re heading back as we plan to sleep in marina in Worcester as the boat needs to be given back by 930 !

The weather has been good and sun today !
    It’s okay
Back into Worcester past the marina and a turn around !
Sunny day and only issues of note
    - it’s harder barging down hill !
    - Hugh took a tumble !
    - we almost did a family of swans in - in a lock ! Not happy !

    But it’s over , we survived !

    Happy 70th Wilf

  • Day 3 Heading home in the daytime !

    September 24 in England ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Fantastic night - can u go cards c.1945 and now Home !

The problem with not doing the ring is that we are going back over the same course!
The reeds ! The trees ! The locks ! The odd tunnel !
You can read some of my drivel or just reread the first two days

Leaving Droitwich and salt remnants ! Wych" refers to a "salt town" or a place associated with salt production, derived from the Old English word "wic," meaning "a place" or a "brine spring". There was a lot around here !

Btw the cill on the canal ? Not the sill on the window sill ! Apparently one is industrial and the other isn’t !

    It’s a sunny day !
    Oh no - clouds !

Chateau Impney the old salt kings home under repair and not an active hotel.

    A tunnel ! A bloody horn ! thanks Jezza !

So top three reasons for barge holidays - Hugh ?
    Silence
    Slow
    Camaraderie!

Somewhere on the list might be scenery ?

    Andrew ?
    Scenery
    Camaraderie
    Fresh air ! ( after a curry)

    Jezza ?
    Slowness
Not having to talk to people
    The scenery !

    Jayne? With rationale!
    -Quiet peaceful and slow
-Closest to camping which I hate and I can have Personal bathroom
-On water all those reflections and so pretty !

    Mine ?
Interesting things to see , cand there are not many and catch up chat and banter …

    So the ring cycle ? Wagner’s opus ? It’s because there’s a ring that’s made and stolen ! But why a cycle ?
Well ! It’s a Connected Narrative: The four operas, Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried, and Götterdämmerung, form a single, overarching story. Bit like a barge trip too

And we’re back … at the same pub we drank in as the better pub is not serving food so it’s the bridge pub … kfc burger ?

    - Forest Betis! No tv just the radio ! 2 - 2 bah!
