    Tin Can Bay

    February 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Leaving early in the morning to ensure we keep up with the tides. It’s been raining during the night and dark clouds are looming. The sun is trying to come up.

    February 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We’ve just past the Eco villas which don’t look too enticing. Perhaps it’s just the weather 🥹 We’ve had some showers and quite strong winds but we are heading to sheltered South White Cliffs for the afternoon and evening.Read more

It’s stopped raining but is still dreary and overcast. We are staying here for the rest of the afternoon and night, so time for some lunch and more reading. Life is tough.

  • On our way to Hervey Bay

    February 24, 2023 in Australia

We left early this morning to make our way to Hervey Bay marina for the night. Last night in the evening we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and glass of wine with dolphins jumping around very near us. Later though, it became a choppy night with our depth alarm going off intermittently and I was a bit nervous but thankfully we weren’t in any danger, just anchored near a steep floor bed. Let’s hope the sun tries a bit harder to push through today.Read more

  • Kingfisher Bay

    February 24, 2023 in Australia

This is the main resort on Fraser Island and it has good Anchorage space. We will come back here tomorrow night. Apparently there are fantastic pizzas here but we don’t have a tender yet so can’t take advantage of them this time. Plus we had one two nights ago and pizza is sadly one of those ‘moderation’ foods 😞
On our way to Hervey Bay marina now.

  • Hervey Bay marina

    February 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

We came into the marina at 1:00pm after a very choppy trip up the straits past Big Woody and little Woody island. We’ve had a beer with Eric, Steve’s uncle, had a nice long shower and are now going off to find a good coffee. As Steve pulled his fishing line in to put it away on the way into the marina, he discovered he’d caught a big spotted mackerel. He’s cut some up for himself and shared some with Eric. Hope it tastes good. 😀🥹Read more

  • Kingfisher Bay

    February 25, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We had a leisurely start to the day, having breakfast and slowly making the move to get out of the marina. We did sail for most of the day and then motored directly to Kingfisher Bay as the winds were plotting against us. We found a lovely anchorage and are now enjoying some of our left over wedding champagne, some nibbles and the most gorgeous sunset.Read more

  • Back in the Hervey Bay marina

    February 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Today we had a beautiful day sailing in pretty much perfect conditions. The straits were a millpond last night so we slept like little babies. We had a spectacular show from about a hundred garfish last night being very skittish around the back of the boat. What hilarious little fish. They were skipping across the water like skimming pebbles. We came back into the marina at mid afternoon and then had some dramas around the fuel station. Nothing we want to share, an experience we’d rather forget.😩Nevertheless we then had a lovely night with a Steve’s aunt, Jenny and Eric and some old good friends from way back, Jenny (Bertie) and Kev. Now for a relaxing night before an early start tomorrow heading to Gary’s Anchorage.Read more

  • Garry’s Anchorage

    February 27, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 25 °C

Wow this is a bit of a find! A spectacular spot very closer to K’gari. We just saw two dingos walking past us along the beach. Luckily they were on the beach and didn’t look interested in swimming out to Penzance for a snack 🥹 Steve set up the hammock and we spent the afternoon relaxing. Evening rewarded us with the most beautiful sunset. So blessed, so grateful. ♥️🥰Read more

  • Home sweet home

    February 28, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

We had a lovely last day, beginning with a restful and relaxing brekkie and slowly making our way back to Tin Can Bay. We were able to sail for about 2/3 of the trip and are beginning to work together smoothly when raising and lowering the sails. Having spent these last six days on Penzance, we both feel a lot more confident and competent and ready to plan our next adventure.Read more
