Crime Tuesday in Trincomalee

Today I enjoyed the delicious breakfast again. The toast is really super good. Toasted just right. The fruit juice is freshly squeezed and the omelette is just wow. Mmmh, delicious.

I also chat with Elena. She decided to settle here in Trincomalee 8 years ago. She rents the land and built the buildings herself. Everything went great until Covid. But she also had some problems with her fellow countrymen. They weren't so happy about how successful she was and they wanted to drive her away. For example, she had plans to have 3 more wooden bungalows built. The permit was obtained and the wood delivered. But unfortunately someone set fire to the wood during the night. She went to the police, but nobody "could" help her. She had to go to the Supreme Court in Colombo, won, and the press became aware of the case and there was a report on TV that helped her because people now respect her. What a story. Elena is a friendly person, makes an effort with her guests and is very respectful. I feel comfortable here.

In the library I discover a German Alpine crime novel. Niedertracht. Set in the Zugspitze region. Exciting. Just what I need. 378 pages. A small project for the next few days. I decide to stay until Thursday 😊 Haha. Did I already say that I feel very comfortable here? 😊

I hang out on the beach and start the book. I read all afternoon. Treat myself to a salad for lunch, then read on. In the evening I go back, shower, get ready and go back to Hawaii for dinner with crime fun, that's the plan. I'm not halfway there yet.

In the Hawaii Bar I met my new neighbors. Two Swiss guys, one over 70 and the other 35, who are traveling together. They were funny guys and fit well together. We drank a beer or two together. My crime novel will have to wait until tomorrow, as I'm no longer in the stadium to read it properly 😊. Easy. I still have a bit of time. There's also an Asian couple sitting in the Hawaii Bar, who I also saw at Elena's. We don't get to talking. I'm sure I'll chat to them tomorrow at breakfast. Don't rush into anything. Cheers!

Heute genoss ich wieder das feine Frühstück. Der Toast ist wirklich super gut. Genau richtig getoastet. Der Fruchtsaft wird frisch gepresst und das Omelette ist einfach nur wow. Mmmh, lecker.

Ich unterhalte mich auch noch mit Elena. Sie entschied sich vor 8 Jahren, hier in Trincomalee niederzulassen. Das Land mietet sie und die Gebäude baute sie selber auf. Alles lief super, bis Covid. Doch auch mit den Landsleuten hatte sie einige Probleme. Die waren nicht so happy darüber, wie erfolgreich sie war und man wollte sie vertreiben. Zum Beispiel hatte sie die Pläne noch 3 weitere Holzbungalows bauen zu lassen. Die Bewilligung war eingeholt und das Holz angeliefert. Doch leider zündetet jemand in der Nacht das Holz an. Sie ging zur Polizei, doch niemand «konnte» ihr helfen. Sie musste bis vors oberste Gericht in Colombo, bekam Recht und dadurch wurde die Presse auf den Fall aufmerksam und es gab eine Reportage im TV, die ihr half, weil die Leute nun Respekt vor ihr haben. Was für eine Geschichte. Elena ist eine freundliche Person, gibt sich mühe mit ihren Gästen und ist sehr respektvoll. Ich fühle mich wohl hier.

In der Bibliothek entdecke ich einen deutschen Alpenkrimi. Niedertracht. Spielt in der Gegend der Zugspitze. Spannend. Genau was für mich. 378 Seiten. Ein kleines Projekt für die nächsten Tage. Ich entscheide mich nämlich, dass ich bis Donnerstag bleib 😊 Haha. Habe ich schon gesagt, dass ich mich hier sehr wohl fühle? 😊

Ich hänge an den Beach und beginne mit dem Buch. Ich lese den ganzen Nachmittag. Gönne mir einen Salat zum Mittag, dann weiterlesen. Gegen Abend gehe ich wieder zurück, duschen, parat machen und wieder zurück ins Hawaii zum Nachtessen mit Krimi Spass, so ist der Plan. Bin noch nicht in der Hälfe.

In der Hawaii Bar lernte ich meine neuen Nachbarn kennen. Zwei Schweizer, einer über 70 und der Andere 35, die zusammen reisen. Sie waren witzige Typen und passten gut zusammen. Wir tranken zusammen das eine oder andere Bier. Mein Krimi muss bis morgen warten, da ich nicht mehr im Stadion bin um richtig zu lesen 😊. Easy. Ich habe noch ein bisschen Zeit. In der Hawaii Bar sitzt auch noch ein asiatisches Pärchen, das ich auch bei Elena gesehen habe. Wir kommen nicht ins Gespräch. Die werde ich sicher morgen beim Frühstück anquatschen.
