Marktbesuch, Tee und die 'unschönen' Seiten 🍊🍌

Unser letztes marokkanisches Frühstück nach der Riad-Suite rundete nun endgültig einen wundervollen Urlaub ab. Ab jetzt waren wir wieder Aufsichtsperson, Lehrkraft, Streitschlichter und Gesprächspartner.. und noch vieles mehr 🧑🏽‍🏫
Wir trafen uns mit unseren Schüler*innen um 10:30 Uhr vor ihrem ehemaligen Riad und brachen dann zu einem großen Markt auf, der jeden Sonntag viele Menschen aus dem Umkreis sowohl als Verkäufer als auch Käufer anlockt. Es ging also zunächst etwa 30 Minuten zu Fuß ins Landesinnere. Ein Bereich, den wir bisher noch nicht näher erkundet hatten 🔍
Wir versammelten uns vor einem alten Fabrikgebäude und legten fest, dass jeder (in Kleingruppen) bis 14:00 Uhr den Markt im 'free-shore-leave' auf eigene Faust erkunden darf. Ich ging mit Matthias (WL) zunächst zu einem Supermarkt und dann über den nahe gelegenen Gemüse- und Obstmarkt. Ich kaufte 3 rote Paprika für umgerechnet 40 Cent und wir ließen uns von den engen Gassen und Straßen durch die verschiedenen Bereiche des Marktes leiten🚶🏽
Inmitten einer Art Trödel-/Schrottplatz gab es ein paar Plastikstühle auf denen Einheimische saßen und Tee tranken. Matthias und ich setzten uns auf zwei freie Plätze und bekamen - ohne Bestellung - zwei Teekannen mit Zucker serviert 🫖
Im Anschluss an unsere kurze Pause schlenderten wir noch ein wenig durch die Gassen und waren dann pünktlich am vereinbarten Standort 📌
Die Schüler*innen waren z. T. sehr ergriffen von den Zuständen und der Umgebung, die sie nun weiter außerhalb der gewohnten Medina Essaouiras erlebt hatten. Es ging zurück in die Stadt und wir vereinbarten noch eine gemeinsame Strandzeit mit den Schüler*innen der Johann Smidt ab 16:00 Uhr bis zur Abholung mit dem Dingi 🚤
Ich erledigte in der Zeit noch eine Aufgabe aus den 50 Challenges und aß mit Matthias noch eine Kaktusfeige sowie eine Frucht, dessen Namen wir leider nicht genau verstanden hatten 🍠
Nach einem Schawarma ging es dann zum Strand und wir ließen den Tag in entspannter Atmosphäre ausklingen. Marie von der Crew brachte uns später wohlbehalten mit dem Dingi zurück auf unser schwankendes Zuhause und wir legten fest, dass es morgen endlich wieder Matheunterricht geben würde 📐

Market visit, tea and the 'unsightly' sides 🍊🍌

Our last Moroccan breakfast after the riad suite finally rounded off a wonderful vacation. From now on, we were once again supervisors, teachers, mediators and discussion partners... and much more 🧑🏽‍🏫
We met with our students at 10:30 a.m. in front of their former riad and then set off for a large market that attracts many people from the surrounding area every Sunday, both as sellers and buyers. We first walked about 30 minutes inland. An area that we had not yet explored 🔍
We gathered in front of an old factory building and decided that everyone (in small groups) would be allowed to explore the market in the 'free-shore-leave' on their own until 14:00. I went with Matthias (WL) first to a supermarket and then to the nearby fruit and vegetable market. I bought 3 red peppers for the equivalent of 40 cents and we wandered through the narrow alleyways and streets of the market leiten🚶🏽
In the middle of a kind of junkyard, there were a few plastic chairs where locals were sitting and drinking tea. Matthias and I sat down on two free seats and were served two teapots with sugar - without ordering 🫖
After our short break, we strolled through the alleyways for a while and then arrived at the agreed location on time 📌
Some of the students were very moved by the conditions and the surroundings that they had now experienced further away from the familiar medina of Essaouira. We went back to the city and agreed to spend some time on the beach with the Johann Smidt students from 4 p.m. until they were picked up by dinghy 🚤
During this time, I completed another task from the 50 challenges and ate a prickly pear with Matthias as well as a fruit whose name we unfortunately didn't understand exactly 🍠
After a shawarma, we went to the beach and ended the day in a relaxed atmosphere. Marie from the crew later brought us safely back to our swaying home in the dinghy and we decided that we would finally have math lessons again tomorrow 📐
