Maerim Elephant Sanctuary

During our visit we met and fed Chompoo, meaning "pink" in Thai. Chompoo is a 30-year-old female elephant whose name reflects her adorable pink-hued trunk. Rescued from a riding camp in 2017, Chompoo's past has left her with visible scars on her head—a reminder of the hardships she endured. Tragically, during her years in captivity, she suffered severe injuries due to the harsh methods used to control her.
