Europe pre-school trip 2022

Travel to Greece, Spain, a cruise around the Mediterranean and a trip to Lithuania. These were the longest summer holidays we had, which were possible thanks to a remaining parental leave for Alisa, and to Elijas having a break before school. Read more
  • Family gathering in Aragon

    June 25, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We left Pamplona rather smoothly, despite the strict timing constraints to access the city center by car. We drove our way to Cadrete, close to Zaragoza, where we had agreed to meet for lunch with our relatives. We went for lunch to Restaurant El tío Genaro and after that to our relatives home. We spent a lovely time there catching up, swimming and playing with the kids. Alisa got also to play with the cats, as she had been looking for a long time. We also had a lovely surprise celebration of our 10 years wedding Anniversary, very sweet from everyone and we hope to find many more occasions to meet up. That was a fantastic way to bring our road trip close to its end!Read more

  • Segur de Calafell

    June 28, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

After all our road trip and the lovely family gathering, we headed to Segur de Calafell for a relaxing beach stay. There we could chill a few days, enjoy or fight for the cartoons and the amusements, and let Neringa have her job interview. After that, we also finished our stay with a water splash at Aqualeon, where Elijas went out of his comfort zone by trying different water slides.Read more

  • Start of our cruise!

    July 2, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Finally the time came to fulfill Elijas' dreams - and also that of his grandparents: to go together on the cruise ship. It was so overwhelming and hard to realise that such a big ship could be real. The water park on the top decks was a success and Elijas went also exploring around all corners. The crew was also very kind and helping us with his food allergies. There were many possibilities for entertainment, including football billiard or minigolf, events with Peppa Pig and dances. We even got to know Peppa better as we had lunch with her and the kids got her signature and little George pigs as gifts.Read more

  • Cagliari

    July 4, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

The first stop of the cruise was on Sardinia's main city Cagliari, which the guides told us meant "the Castle". We went out from the ship to walk around the city. The old town was all on the hillsides and there were stairs everywhere. The heat was quite strong but we managed to make it and return to the ship for lunch, so we could enjoy some program in the afternoon, such as the soap bubble party with Peppa Pig.Read more

  • Palermo

    July 5, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Next stop on the way: Palermo. Sicily's biggest city surprised us with some impressive sights, such as the opera, the cathedral, the church with the dogs in memory to the victims of the Mafia, or the Royal Palace. There was also a huge street market, where even motorbikes went through - a detail of the sometimes happening chaos in the city. We had lunch in a supposedly fancy restaurant which was definitely overrated, with the star dish being some raw prawns with mushroom-filled ravioli. The walk back was tricky for everyone, either on the sun or through big roads.Read more

  • Rome and Civitavecchia

    July 6, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

The eternal city Rome welcomed us, but that was not an easy task: we had to walk from the port of Civitavecchia to the train station, wait for 40 minutes for the train and drive 1 hour to Roma Termini. At noon we were just walking past the train station to start our sightseeing tour. Luckily Rome is an open air museum and we could enjoy the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Vittoriano Memorial, the Parthenon and the Fontana de Trevi in a rather short time. Alisa was very well behaved and helped us to get quickly through the heat and direct sun exposure, while Elijas stayed in the ship with grandparents. We rewarded ourselves with some real Italian ice cream, so nice that Alisa forced herself to eat her big portion. We managed to finish our tour just in time for our train back to Civitavecchia and then back to the cruise!Read more

  • Genoa

    July 7, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Genoa was a lovely city along the way, with all the palaces and the feel of its rich merchant past. It was the day with our lowest energy levels and moods - the most important is that we survived this one. Alisa got her first cocktail - the Strawberry Caipiroska Zero.Read more

  • Marseille

    July 8, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

A short stop in Marseille was the last one before returning to Barcelona. The cruise left us quite far from the city center, so we took a convenient shuttle bus to there. We arrived to the impressive marble cathedral and we walked around the port and some shopping streets. It was actually quite cute, we bought there some soaps - how not? - and had a big portion of moules frites, which Alisa enjoyed very much. The last evening in the cruise we were gifted with a beautiful sunset on our balcony.Read more

  • Back to Barcelona

    July 9, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

The last morning in the cruise was one for early birds - we were asked to leave our cabin by 08:00. Everything went smooth, besides a rather lengthy wait for the bus. The surprise for us waited: grandma had COVID-19 and we decided to go and stay somewhere else to be able to stay healthy to fly to Lithuania. We still managed to visit Oriol and his family and also meet Macia with his girlfriend Marisol finally having moved there from Mexico.Read more

  • Village life in Joniškis

    July 12, 2022 in Lithuania ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

We were lucky enough to fly safely to Riga, where senelis was waiting for us. We had a warm welcome in Joniškis and we had a few days of slowed down life, picking cherries, strawberries, redcurrants, tomatoes and cucumbers. Kids enjoyed being in this environment, playing with the shops or helping with watering the plants, and we parents could also relax a bit and delegate the child care to all helping hands.Read more

  • Birthday celebrations

    July 16, 2022 in Lithuania ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We celebrated uncle Stasys' 75th birthday on the 15th and the day after Senelis birthday. For the former, Elijas was very motivated to bake a cake, so that he could have his dessert safely.
Milda and Gytis also travelled back from Vilnius and we went together on Saturday to see Mikutavičius concert in Žagarė.Read more

  • Ilzenbergo dvaras

    July 18, 2022 in Lithuania ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

On the 17th we started our road trip on the northeast of Lithuania with our family - Milda and Gytis, Senelis, Močiutė, Tetulytė, Gintaras with the family and also Agne's parents for a couple of days.
We arrived to Ilzenbergo dvaras, a farm from 16th century, with a palace from late 19th century which had been recently renewed and had farming and winery business. It was located at the border with Latvia. In fact, its lake was neutral territory in between the two countries and had a little island called the Island of Love.
We got an educational tour in the morning, where we saw the farm animals, the vineyards and the insides of the palace. We also got a degustation and we had a lunch together to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary to come.

  • Sartų regional park

    July 19, 2022 in Lithuania ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

On our trip, we continued exploring some of the treasures of Lithuania, such as the oldest oaks in the country or the observation towers that gave us a panorama over the natural parks. The evening was celebrated with a BBQ close to the Sartų lake in a wonderful sodyba where we stayed all together.Read more

  • Alisa's birthday

    July 19, 2022 in Lithuania ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We celebrated Alisa's birthday on the road but in great company! We managed to get a suitable spot in a spacious restaurant in Zarasai, where we could also eat the tasty birthday cake that Neringa made.
Before going to sleep to the beautiful camping site, we managed to visit and pray in a nearby site where Mother Mary had appeared in the 1960s.

  • A day in the nature

    July 20, 2022 in Lithuania ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

After having some fun in the camping, we went for an educational walk in the forest. Alisa discovered the wild blueberries and wanted to pick them and eat them all the way. We also managed to buy some large amount of mushrooms freshly picked which we ate a couple of days later.
We then went to Ladakalnis for another walk and we meet Akvilė there. The evening program went to an end with a swim in the Gynučiai waterfall.

  • Bee museum and end of the road trip

    July 21, 2022 in Lithuania ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

The last day of the trip was very rich. We started with a visit to the Bitininkystės museum - an in-depth view on the life of bees and how hives are made and maintained and how honey is collected.
We stopped in Gynučiai for lunch and to have a refreshing bath in the waterfall.
We then went to Anykščiai for a short visit to dėdė Kęstas in the old charming sodyba, collected a few black currants, played with the kids, and sayed goodbye to the cousins. Both kids arrived asleep to Joniškis after such long day.

  • Outing to Birštonas

    July 24, 2022 in Lithuania ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

What a great present we got from our family: a two-night stay at Vytautas Mineral SPA, while the kids stayed in Joniškis with grandparents and Tetulytė. On the way there, we passed through the Hill of the Crosses to thank for the blessings of the first 10 years of marriage. We managed to rest, walk through the greeneries, meet Monika and Remi and do a small Nemunas tour on a boat.Read more
