• Glasgow to Cairnryan

    Today we travelled on the ferry across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland, from where so many ancestors from both sides of the family originated. To bring this home, whilst waiting for our ferry, we were speaking to a truck driver and he was from Ballymena. This is where Robert McGill - my maternal great great great grandfather came from before leaving and sailing to Sydney, arriving in 1842.

    After leaving Glasgow in the morning, we travelled down the scenic Ayrshire coast, which gave us views of Ailsa Craig in the distance.

    The ferry departed from Cairnryan, but was delayed by 2 hours. Eventually we got underway and arrived at the port of Larne in Northern Ireland.
