Went to Wurzburg in the afternoon. Lot more commercial then Rothenberg...not as interesting. Some old buildings around like the Wurzburg Residence Palace. Also an old bridge crosses the river to the palace and they sell beer and wine on it and just stand around and drink and watch the world go by.Les mer

    15th August 2017.
This morning we are sailing up to Miltenberg. Amazing views along the way. Dont know how the grape vines don't wash away. Must be hard work at harvest time. During the morning Mr Ittigg gave us a glassblowing demonstration. He was amazing. I had to buy a little memento. This afternoon we are going on a treasure hunt in Miltenberg.Les mer

Did walk tour through the town. Very picturesque and old. This is a lovely town and the oldest in the Bavarian area.
Old area ( Franconia). The houses on the hill side are actually built into the rock mountain. All these houses have underground cellers for storing beer. Lots of local wine and beer makers live here and store their booze in very deep cellers.Les mer

This morning we changed from the river Main to the river Rhine. Passed Frankfurt during the night and will dock at Rudesheim this morning. This town is famous for good rieslings and has lots of vineyards on the hills. Graham went to the Siegfrieds Musical Instrument Museum and Ainsley and I went for a gondola ride up to the Niedwald monument. Had a perfect day for the ride and great views.Les mer

    17. august 2017, Nederland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Got to the top. Great views. Also the large Niederwald Memorial. In memory of the unique victorious resurgence of the German people and of the re-creation of the German Empire 1870-1871. Interesting history. After revolutions the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm was declared German Kaiser in the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles. Also had their special coffee Rudesheim Kaffee.....yummy...for a person who is not a coffee drinker. Made with ^Asbach^ brandy, 3 cubes sugar set on fire then add hot coffee and cream. It really warmed you up.Les mer

Stayed overnight at Andernach. Set sail this morning up to Cologne. Lot more industrial sites along river bank as we get closer to Cologne . Went and had a quick look around Cologne as it started to rain and we couldn't be bothered walking around in the rain. Saw the Cologne Cathedral. It's huge. Hard to get a proper picture. Lit a candle for mum.Les mer

As we approach Amsterdam the weather is wet ,cold and miserable. Yuk!
When we arrived the weather improved.Did a canal cruise to get a feel of the place. Lots of boats permanently moored in the waterways. They do not move and have water and sewerage plumbed to their boat.Les mer

Looking around the city. Bikes everywhere. They rule the roads in the city. Went to have a look in the Red district. Very interesting but sad that this still exists. But we were still nosey and went to see the ladies in the windows. Smelt the air....full of dope. They have special coffee shops for smoking the stuff and eating special cookies. Gave this a miss.Les mer

This morning we took a train to Rhonda. It took us just under 2 hours.
Some one on our cruise said it was a ^ must see ^ destination. And they were so right. What a cliff hanger of a place.
By the entrance to the fortress there was also a bullring but we had no time to go and see it.

More photos of this amazing place. According to local legend, the Muslim King Abomelic built this structure in the days when Rhonda occupied a strategic position on the border between Castile and what would become the Nasrid Kingdom of Grenada. About 14th century. Graham who is scared of heights nearly shit himself when he realized he was standing on the overhanging balcony using his video. He didn't realize till we walked around to the other side and he looked back. He! He!Les mer
