  • Sunset Cruise

    28 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

The cruise started at 6 pm. I was there a few minutes before. We are only 5 guests today, which is really nice. Lovely older couple from Melbourne and a young couple from here. Our Skipper was Kalo and Ash was there too.
The weather was really nice, just the wind was quite cold.
I was enjoying the view from the front for a while until it got too cold.
We got a really nice plate with fruits, cheese, nuts and crackers. All locally produced!
I really liked the dried fruits, which surprised me.
Later we got to taste some fresh oysters. I really wanted to try them so I did. First one was with a dressing, which was really nice, but I didn't taste the oyster. So I went for a natural one just with a little bit of lemon juice. And that was ok too! Nothing I will eat regularly but I can definitely try them again, but only if they are fresh harvest like this once!

  • Coffin Bay

    28 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Today it should get warmer again, around 27 degrees, which is lovely. I was thinking about staying at least another night here and going on a swim with seals tour. But I am still not 100% fit after my cold and I think it's too early. And the tour is booked out, I spontaneous decided to drive to Coffin Bay today. And I think it's a good decision, the freak seems to stay at least another night here.
So I had breakfast and packed up, talked to my lovely neighbors and then it was time to hit the road. I quickly booked the campground as it seems to be pretty full over the weekend in Coffin Bay. It was only a short drive there. I spent the morning exploring Coffin Bay. Went to the lookout and walked a part of the Oyster Walk. Coffin Bay is famous for its oysters.
As I was feeling quite exhausted I went to the campground at 2 pm, checked in and had a relaxing afternoon. I really needed a nap and a break!
For the evening I booked a sunset sailing tour with Sunset Charters.

  • Fishery Bay and Whaler's Way Sanctuary

    27 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

From Lolo Beach I drove over to Fishery Bay and the Whaler's Way Sanctuary. Both nice places, but still super windy and only 22 degrees that felt even colder.
From here i went back to Port Lincoln. I arrived at the campground around 5 pm. My spot from last night was free, but I got a new neighbor on my right side. I parked up the car, like I did yesterday and from the new neighbors setup I was already expecting him to be an " interesting" person.
Well, he is a freak. He came back to his car and car straight towards my car to complain, that I'm blocking his view of the ocean. And that he was here first and I am so disrespectful to park like this and take the good views to myself.. I was looking into a bush?!
I could go anywhere, he doesn't understand how I could be so rude. Excuse me? I was exactly here last night and no one complained. If you want an ocean view, park up close to the ocean. Unpowered sides are free to choose where you want to stay in certain areas.. He said: I let it up to you to do the right thing...
Well I didn't want to move, but I didn't want to talk to the freak again so I backed up a little bit, so he got his view..

  • Lolo Beach and Lone Pine Lookout

    27 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

From Lincoln National Park I drove the short way to Lolo Beach and from there to Line Pine Lookout. It's really windy here, cold southerly wind and cloudy, only 22 degrees here.
But I saw some dolphins hanging out and riding some waves. It was sooooo cool! One dolphin was riding a wave, really fast and then jumped high out! Of course I was not ready to take a picture yet. But wow, that was so amazing to see!
I think I watched them for like 15 minutes before they went further out into the ocean. You could see me smiling for the rest of the day 😊

  • Stamford Hill Loop

    27 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

First stop was at the Stamford Hill. I decided to do the loop, around 6 km, first up to the monument on the hill and then down on the other side.
It was a steep walk up the hill but the view was stunning! The loop track was also really nice. It took me around 2 hours with many stops on the way and absolutely no stress at all.Читать далее

  • Port Lincoln Campground

    26 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

From Tumby Bay it was luckily just a short drive to Port Lincoln, my final destination for today.
I got really tired the last 30 minutes and had to fight to stay awake until I reached the campground.
Unpowered sides here have areas where you can choose your place. Went to the smallest one, parked up but was not satisfied. It was really uneven here and I was standing really at an angle. The neighbor came over and said, if I were you, I would park on the other side of our truck. You get a little bit closer to us, what we dint mind but you will stand much better there.
So I did it and it was much better!
Nice to have so nice neighbors in the campground again. Also the couple on my other side is really nice.
The rest of the afternoon I spent watching the Rainbow Lorikeets and Galahs. I love it!!!
And I was freezing 🙈 It's only 23 degrees here. It was freezing cold for me, especially the wind.
My neighbors were laughing at me 😂
In the evening I met a woman from Canada and her mother and we sat together for almost two hours talking about traveling around Australia 😊

  • Arno Bay Mangroves Broadwalk

    26 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

I didn't stopped at Port Gibbon because the unsealed road to Port Gibbon was really bad, so I turned around after a few hundred metres, I don't want to risk another flat tyre.
    Next stop was Arno Bay.
Here I went on the Mangroves broadwalk. It was actually two, one to the river mouth and one deeper into the mangroves. It's super cool to see all the different types of landscape and plants that are growing there.

  • Whylla and Cowell Mangrove Broadwalk

    25 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Next stop was Whyalla. Beautiful little town. I first went up to the lookout to get a nice view over the town. From here went to the Jetty for a lunch break but decided to first take a walk around the round Jetty. And that was the best decision ever! There were some dolphins chilling out close to the Jetty 😍
One was staying quite awhile and he was watching the people on the Jetty. I had even a pelican walking around the Jetty say hello to all the people there at least twice.
When the dolphin swam away I went back to the car and had a lunch break.
After lunch I drove to Cowell where I will spend the night. I had a calm rest of the afternoon and evening. My neighbor asked me if I eat crabs, unfortunately not. They caught so many so I could get a few if I want. Wow so nice of them.
Went on the Mangroves Broadwalk before taking a shower and cooked dinner.
In the morning I talked quite a while to some of my other neighbors and was getting some fish, fresh caught the day before, already fix and cut and frozen. Wow, i am looking forward to try this fish!

  • Fitzgerald Bay & Point Lowly Lighthouse

    25 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

After a calm morning with a good breakfast I drove Lisa to the bus stop. We were very good in time so we had to wait a little until the bus was coming. Checking in and loading the bags was quickly done so we had to say goodbye.
The bus was driving south to Adelaide and I passed through Port Augusta to drive south to the Eyre Peninsula.
    First stop was Fitzgerald Bay.
On the way here Berta was attacked by millions and millions of insects and looks horrible now. Poor Berta.
From Fitzgerald Bay I drove to the Point Lowly Lighthouse. Also really nice place here.
On the way back to the main road a kangaroo decided to jump into my left front 😬 Luckily I saw it in the road and was able to break quite a bit before the crash. So the Kangaroo jumped away and I had just a little shock but the car, Berta, is fine! Thanks god! I don't need another problem..

  • Scenic Flight Wilpena Pound

    24 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Early morning again. Today we are going on a 30 minutes scenic flight over Wilpena Pound, Bunyaroo Gorge and Brachina Gorge.
After a good breakfast we drive the around 3 km to the airfield where our pilot was already waiting for us. So we had to check our weight, paid and then we were already in our way to our little plane together with a lovely couple from Great Britain. After a short safety briefing I jumped in the small back seat, the couple got seated in front of me and Lisa had the honor to be the Co-pilot for today. And of we go! It was amazing much more stable than I was expecting it to be. The view was amazing! I loved every second of the flight! After 35 minutes, 5 extra minutes 😉 we were back in the ground.
    What an experience!
From here we went back to Hawker and picked up our repaired tyre. They quickly changed it back on. It's really easy going here, I like it!

  • Bunyaroo Gorge Scenic Drive

    23 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Our alarm was going 6 am so we had an early start of the day. It's getting out again today, not as hot as yesterday but still around 33 degrees. So after Breakfast we packed up and left camp to drive to Bunyeroo Gorge. We planned to do the walk there. The drive there was already stunning with beautiful views so we stopped a few times along the way. As we arrived in Bunyarro Gorge I heard a pfff and quickly found a hole in our left front tyre. So we jumped back into the car to get back to the main road before the tyre is completely flat. Too bad we missed out the walk in Bunyarro Gorge, we didn't stop at Brachina Gorge either. Just driving around 20 km back to the main road. We made it after what felt like ages. Unfortunately there was no cellphone connection there so we had to drive all the way to the Wilpena Pound Visitor Center. The couple we talked to last night was about to leave from there so they stopped to ask if we were ok. He figured out how to take down the spare tyre but we went for the safe way and called Roadside assistance and they organized a mechanical that came out to change the tyre. Chris was so nice to take with the broken one to his shop in Hawker to see if it's repairable. If not he has a tyre for us, so we will stop at his shop tomorrow on our way to Port Augusta. After waiting 2 1/2 at the Visitor Center we went back to camp to spent the afternoon relaxing at the pool and reading a little bit.Читать далее

  • Wangarra Lookout Walking Trail

    22 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We set the alarm for 6 am as we want to leave early to get to Wilpena Pound Visitor Center as early as possible. We checked out the possible walks and decided to do the Wangarra Lookout Walking Trail. We quickly fixed some sandwiches, packed our bags as it was just getting hotter and hotter and left the car park around 9:40 am.
First it was a lovely walk through a forest. We saw a Yellow Footed Rock Wallabie quite in the beginning of the walk. Super rare sight! Wow we are so lucky.
After a while we had to walk up the hill on a step track. That was really tuff especially it just got hotter and hotter with every minute. We stopped quite a few times but finally made up to the lookout and wow it was so worth it!
After a short break it was time to head back down as the sun was burning down at us and up here it is almost no shadow. Down at the former settlement we had a break to eat our sandwiches before we went back to the Visitor Center.

  • Road to Hawker

    21 февраля, Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

Today we had a long drive in front of us. So we went up early to start the drive early. With a few stops on the way we made it safe and sound to Hawker, a small town in the south Flinders Ranger, around afternoon.
It's super warm here, over 30 degrees and Lisa went for a swim in the pool! I am still coughing a little bit and the nose I now also running a lot so I just had my feet in the pool. Stupid cold I got in the flight from Singapore to Melbourne... Never been freezing so much in an airplane before..
We had wraps for dinner as it was too warm to cook something.
We were watching the birds and the sunset and went to bed around 10pm

    20 февраля, Австралия ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Our Campground for tonight is at Point Turton. As we checked in the guy at the reception told us, that now I a good time to go to the Jetty and look out for some sting rays that used to spend the afternoon there. Of coarse we did it straight a way and we were so happy to see some of them cruising around the Jetty. Even a pelican was there too.
After that we went to the local pub and had fish and chips! Fresh fish locally catched, u love it! And it was delicious!!

  • Dolphin Sanctuary Kayak

    19 февраля, Австралия ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

This morning Lisa went in her McLouds Tour and I booked the Dolphin Sanctuary Kayak Tour.
It was just a short drive from the hotel there. We got our equipment for the trip and then splitted up into to groups. My guide was Fiona. And I was paired with Sam. Sam and her two friends are from Melbourne, same age and on a girl's trip. We had a great time together, laughing a lot.
It was really cool to drive through the Mangroves but it was also really tricky to maneuver the very long kayak between the trees.
After the tour I had a lunch break at the beach and then slowly started to dive towards Gawler where I pick up Lisa in the afternoon.
On the way I stopped at many Kmarts and Big W trying to find some sunshades for the cars and snorkel equipment for myself and I was actually successful, finally!
I picked up Lisa shortly before 5 pm and from Hawker we went to a super windy Port Colin where we found a campground for tonight.
First campground, first time sleeping in the van, first cooked meal in the camper!
    It was delicious!

Today Lisa went on a tour to swim with dolphins. I dropped her off at the harbour around 7:30 am and went to the beach to spend the morning there. I was trying to organize the camper a little bit and otherwise i was just reading a book.
Around 12:30 pm I went to pick up Lisa again. We sat together in a cafe with a woman from Austria that Lisa met on the boat. After that we went shopping all the groceries that we will need the next couple of days.
After a short stop in the hotel we went on a walk through the city before we had dinner and went to bed early.
