    September 6, 2021 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Easy trip round the M25 and up the A1M. Luckily for us (but not for some poor bugger) a crash had completely closed the M25 just before we got onto it so there were no cars coming through and no heavy traffic, it was soon warm and sunny and we stopped for coffee at Grantham then came off the A1 for the last cross country 100km where we had lunch, stopped off at Derwent Reservoir on the way and arrived at our nice b&b around 1600.Read more

  • Day 13 - Part 1 - To Lockerbie

    September 18, 2021 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Road trip - day 13 - Skye to Lockerbie. Set of soon after 0840 as it was a long drive (turned out to be even longer - see below). All was going well until we reached FortWilliam and discovered the A82 was closed due to an accident just South of Glencoe. This caused 2 problems (1) we couldn’t visit the Glen Etive valley which featured in James Bond’s “Skyfall” and (2) we had to do a big detour adding 30 miles and an extra hour on the trip. Apart from that the trip was fine and we arrived at Lockerbie at 1600 and visited the plane crash memorial. We then checked into our fabulous B&B. Footnote: when I did the NC500 in May 2018 the A82 was also shut and I had to do a detour. So I’ve only ever driven the A82 twice and both times I couldn’t drive all of it!Read more
