VoyageurOne thing Tom forgot to mention about the murals in the monasteries: the paint is all made out of natural materials: plants, insects, ground stones. They have not been restored or touched-up, yet the colors are as beautiful and vivid as when they were painted 700 years ago.
VoyageurAlso… we were the only visitors to the monasteries today. We had them to ourselves and our guide. A monk unlocked them with a big medieval key.
VoyageurThe colors are amazing!! I wonder how they get the beautiful blue color?
VoyageurIn Europe and the Middle East they usually get the blue color from grinding up Lapis Lazuli, a stone. I suspect that’s how they do it here too. Yes, it’s a beautiful shade of blue.
