    My bed last night
    Great to see the Cathedral again 😍A familiar sight...it's a great feeling to be back on CaminoWalking through the city-notice the lovely cool start to the day!Breakfast4The start of the Camino de San Salvador2The first marker...turns out NONE of them have a distance on them3This was when I thought I only had to walk 18km!!!These are the markers I am following2Second coffee stopDifferent flowers this Camino...I do miss the red poppies thoughStarting to climb-León is on the far left in the backgroundThe climb was hot!     Day 1

    August 5 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

    The plan was to walk 18km to Cabanillas...however, the fact the albergue only slept FOUR was worrying me. Sure enough, it was full 😫 As it was early in the day...sort of...I decided to walk another 9km (instead of taking a taxi) So...yep, a 27km day...44,700 steps by the time I went to bed!!
    And now I have a day extra up my sleeve...this Camino was meant to be 9 slow, short days...oh well, the Camino teaches you lots of lessons. Obviously, I need to learn to stop planning so obsessively!!    Read more

    La Robla to Buiza
    A very short day today, after yesterday's mammoth effort! A lot of road walking (ugh) and starting to climb.
    I'm the only person staying in the 12-bed municipal albergue tonight...it's SO peaceful...but weird!Read more

    Poladura de la Tercia to Pajares
    Wow...such a beautiful but demanding stage. A 4km climb right out of town before arriving at the first mountain pass. Had a few drops of rain...justcenough to put a pack cover on but nothing needed for me. I had more sweat than rain!
    After the second pass, it was all downhill to Pajares...which was almost as demanding as going up!
    Have had a wonderful afternoon, mostly spent just looking at the beautiful view of the mountains from this village. No surprise that they are covered in snow in winter!

    Bendueños to Pola de Lena
    Another quiet day, walking 9km mostly alongside a river. Saw a UNESCO World Heritage Site 9th century church. Staying in a bigger town tonight, reflected in the fact there are 20 pilgrims staying in the albergue!Read more

    Pola de Lena to Mieres - 13km
    A leisurely walk today, mostly alongside a river.
    Highlught of the day was a Panaderia van pulling up and the driver giving me a free baguette!! Bought some chorizo and brie and that was lunch and dinner sorted 😋
    Went to a cider bar in Mieres to watch the Sidra Trabanco being poured the traditional way.    Read more

    Mieres to Olloniego
    Another 10km day...short n sweet but one final climb to do. A 3km road walk out of Mieres then 3km up to El Padrùn and down the other side to Olloniego. Watched the eclipse with about 60 locals in a park area just on the outside of town...a very special moment!Read more

    Set off in the rain today...but I was still sweating more fluid than was falling from the sky!! 🥵

    Olloniego to Oviedo
    Last day - 9km
    Straight into it with a 4 km climb then cruised down to Oviedo to arrive at the cathedral by 10.30am. Camino de San Salvador done and dusted!
