    A day of playing tourist in the city of A Coruña. It is SO much bigger than I expected and such a beautiful place. Did LOADS of walking and enjoyed some great scenery, food and beer!

    Day 1 - A Coruña

    Kim (USA) and I decided to get some of the "boring asphalt" kilometers of city walking done today as a way of exploring the city and cutting down tomorrow's 20km walk in the heat.
    We were thankful we did as we struggled to find the place that issued the credentials (pilgrim's passport) as we had been told the church didn't issue them.
    Of course, after traipsing around, trying to ask for directions and getting very frustrated with Google Maps, we found out the church DID issue them!

    Alcampo, our starting point today14We're going down NOW...but first we had to go UP!! 🥵🥵🥵221Looking back to where we walked down beside the road1Such a pretty garden1Pffft, cars are for sissies...let's walk 😂😂😂4I just LOVE the houses 😍26Lunch - pollo empanada (chicken)2Murals always brighten the walk2Destination reached 😜1Only 5 of us here...yay, a bottom bunk1Albergue de Perigrino, Sergude...a wonderful municipal albergueYes, it tasted great!!!! 🍺4Casa Adolfo...the only place in town3The free tapas we got with our beers2Dinner...no menu, just asked if we wanted carne (meat) or huevo (eggs) with potatoes-they were chips

    Day 2 - A Coruña to Sergude

    Set off from our finishing point yesterday...yay, 6km in already! Just 14km to do today...in 28 degree sunshine 🌞 🥵
    It was great to be back doing familiar things...slow, steady walking, food and water stops, photos, admiring the beautiful scenery.Read more

    Started off a bit cooler today
    1Picked up a pilgrim on the way...spent a great couple of hours with a YT 'star' 😁Still loving these stone buildings 😍Breakfast stop at 10am...with cafe con leche, of courseView from the bus on the way to Ferrol €5 for a 45min tripFirst beer of the dayStreets of FerrolNew Pilgrim Hostel of Ferrol...with the MOST inhospitable hospitalero at receptionNo privacy when showering tonight!!The official 'start' marker in FerrolThat's all there is left to do!2Yeah, don't ask me why it is 0...technically that is at Santiago but hey...I don't make the rules!The LOVELIEST lady at the Pilgrim's Office1More streets......and buildingsWalked a couple of kilometers by the sea2€1 for a fresh juicy peach 😋2O Pincho - dinner tonightI chose the chipirones a large Plancha (grilled squid)Finally got my tinto de verano!!!!! Cheers to another successful day on the Camino1Sooooo tasty!!

    Day 3 - Sergude to As Travesas then Ferrol

    Today was a short stage (but with a steep kick-ass hill!!) to where the Camino converge with the Ferrol arm.
    Took a taxi back to A Coruña then a bus to Ferrol (only way to do it on a SUNDAY when most buses stop running!!!
    Got sorted with finding the stsrting point in Ferrol and visiting the pilgrim office before setting off to do the first 6km out of the city, as we did in A Coruña.    Read more

    Yes that is a pig! There is a tragic love story involving a pig, I believe?!2Let's not upset the guy with a gun!!!My constant companion2And my new friend...she just walked straight up to meIt's good to get off the roads...there is a lot of concrete on this Camino!Local Galician wine...in the traditional drinking vesselCafe Barabel at MeangosOur albergue has a 'hang out' room...separate from the kitchen area. Unusual in municipal alberguesMy bed for the nightBetanzos town square (plaza)Met some peregrinas for drinks2Then off to the supermercado to get dinnerALL the streets went up or down!! My poor legsSometimes you get sick of eating out...microwave meal hits the spot!Still loving the churches 😍

    Day 6 - Miño to Meangos

    July 15 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

    I am actually staying in Betanzos tonight but it was only 12km from Miño so we decided to keep walking as far as we could...up hills and in the heat...then taxi back to Betanzos (a beautiful historic town)
    We did another 8km to Meangos which had no accommodation, so taxi back and then another taxi to that starting point tomorrow.    Read more

    It has mostly been concrete so nice to get off road!2Beautiful walk todayLess than 50km to go1With bread and wine, the path is walked9NOT what you want to see when you take off your shoe!!!The two arms of Camino Inglés converge hereAvalina...a Camino legendShe provided these treats for gratis ❤️Her cafe/store1She even administered to my foot (it was just a scratch!! I'm good)Waiting til 1pm to check inFirst course of Pilgrim Meal1Second courseIt rained...all of Galicia is happy!And then it stopped!!

    Day 7 - Meangos to Hospital de Bruma

    A great walk today...only one big hill, as we had done the other one yesterday. So glad we did that! Have had a very quiet afternoon/evening in Brumas as there is only one cafe/bar and nothing else to see.Read more

    Fog! I felt like I was home 😁
    1Yes...that IS a dinosaur on the Camino 🫪Tostada con tomate 😋 one of my favorite Camino breakfasts!Sheep!! Today really had a NZ feel to it 😂On the path...The sun came out soon after4You see all sorts on the CaminoThe albergue I am staying atI was second to arrive...at 11am!1While waiting to check in at 1pm I got stung by a wasp!No cafes nearby but they deliver takeaways from the closest town-chicken burger n chips!Enjoying a lovely restful afternoon1Had to say goodbye to a pilgrim tonight so we shared a bottle of wine to celebrate her caminoIt has been a pleasure spending time with you, Gabi from Germany

    Day 8 - Hospital de Bruma to Ordes

    A very short day (10km) but one of the best as I got to hang out with lots of pilgrims at the Municipal albergue. I often get caught up in the walking but really wanted to slow down and not rush to Santiago de Compostela as this is such a short camino. It will be all over in two days...so slowing down and enjoying the journey.Read more

    Day 9 - Ordes to Segueiro

    2nd to last day of Camino Inglés...can't believe I'm nearly at the end ☹️ only 16km to walk tomorrow

    Day 10 - Segueiro to Santiago de Compostela

    The finish line was in sight! 14km to walk..tried to slow down and enjoy the last day, but my pace got fast the closet I got. Especially the last 4km once you hit the city outskirts.
    And yes, it was just as amazing to walk into Praza do Obradoiro and see the cathedral as it was the first time!!Read more

    One of my favorite spots in the city...so pretty!
    Always SO impressive 😍The Panaderia (bread shop) is actually tucked to the right...so small but delicious food!2I subscribe to a forum to learn all things Camino-related. This is the HQ!The bar where I watched the football final- a LOT quieter today!!Random statue 😂Finally found an ANGLICAN church in Spain!!Local food market4Randomly stumbled on these guys- we walked part of the Camino last year!! AMAZING to run into themChurros and hot chocolate 😋Betsy-Pilgrim House angel ❤️Local goats cheese and bread for lunch111Pulpo n cheese toastie 😋Praza do ObradoiroLast of the day's sun on the cathedral- 9.45pm1Random sign on a laundromat!

    Last day here in northwest Spain. Spent the day roaming the old city, seeing familiar sights from last year and new ones. I love wandering all the old streets and alleyways.

    Always looking for the yellow arrows...and shells4You learn to appreciate a cold beer!!!!3Beds are bunks 95% of the time, in albergues1This is a common (and tasty) breakfast- potata tortilla 😋1First job after checking in...making your bed1You meet amazing people...and learn to take selfies!1There are people providing sustenance in the most unlikely places2ALWAYS stop at a cafe/bar!!Watching the distance count down to Santiago1Sometimes, if you're lucky, you'll get reminders of home!2Paper sheets are an important resource to fight bed bugsThey must produce THOUSANDS of them every year-single use only1You lay some minor belongings to claim your bed1If you are lucky, you meet your Camino 'family'1Beer is cheaper in a supermercado!1Supermercados are useful when you are sick of huge pilgrim meals, or just eating out in general1Lunch stops are important!1Sellos (stamps) come in all shapes, designs and sizes-even McDonalds!!6Boots are always stored outside6You are always thinking of "the next one" 😁2You meet great people and experience great moments2Your backpack is carefully thought out2You learn to notice the little details3Dreaming of the next one!!
