  • Beach time

    27. juli 2019, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Enjoying a beautiful sunshine we spend the day by an empty beach, working and being lazy with a few short barefoot walks in the sand in between. He prepared a good afternoon coffee before driving north for a campsite, having the west coast just next to us.Læs mere

  • Perth

    28. juli 2019, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Reality caught up on us. We woke up in a forrest with a beautiful light from behind a lake and kangaroos jumping around us as we left the campsite before the rangers arrived. Had brekkie in the woods and lunch on the beach, creative cooking under sunshine and blue skyes to empty the food storage.
And then a too warm city drive, a shopping mall, a nice house, an amazing kitchen, and a warm shower. We really left the road this time.

  • Two weeks later

    12. august 2019, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Lessons from two weeks as au pairs: I'm not having kids any time soon! And I'm definitely not having twins. They are cute when not trying to get their way with wathever, but that is a rare thing in this home.
We are helping out with house and garden and two 1½ year olds a bit off the city centre. It has it's moments, but it's not easy.
Once we shortly got to see the city for some job search, and once we had a coffee in Fremantle which is for sure a suburb to check out! Just next to us is Perth Hills, which is a small national park with a beautiful view of the city, and the car does not like to go up to the house. I'm looking forward to get to know Perth and those nice shops we quickly passed by the other day.
Job search and visa frustrations are peaking (or so I hope), but somehow we'll get by. Hopefully it'll be soon we can move on to next stage. To our own projects.

  • Where the grass is greener

    23. august 2019, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Just like that life changed. It's been a few crazy rainy days, the hills around us burned one day, and most mornings we've done some hard work in garden when the kids were not around. A few days ago a Polish couple came, so now the house is full. Last night we took full adavantage of that and dressed up. Letting someone else take the kids the next morning!
In a very fancy fish restaurant in Perth we had a great night out, didn't fit in to that place at all, but had a lot of fun. At night we were back in google streetview searching for a place to sleep, stopped by a river in the national park, put up the curtains, turned on the lights in the back of the van, put the phone under the pillow, bumped our heads together multiple times when crawling back. No internet, no people, just the sound of frogs and water running. Back home. And then struggling with those fancy shoes where we used to just throw the flip flops ...

  • End of road trip

    29. august 2019, Australien ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

And it happend again, the changes. Yesterday we woke up ready to pick up the car from service, excited about a few more days of powder soups, holding the broken lock on the stove to boil water (probably in the rain this time), discussing if the car is straight for the night, early mornings and coffee off the cities, taking turns of charging all our electronics, doing the Nullarbor in reverse. All that.
And now we're in the airport. In different terminals, going opposite directions and with a lot of ifs for next months. And hopefully a late Danish summer!

  • Cairns

    19. februar 2020, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Stepping out the plane we hit a wall of moisty heat. Tasting the rainforest. Carrying barely nothing but our masks and swimwear we were soon back in the hostel from last summer.
Then, with the first light covering the few clouds above Cairns in red, we had en early check-in for the boat, a rare cup of great coffee in a café worth advertising for, and finally off to the reef.Læs mere

  • Diving in the dark

    20. februar 2020, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

A colourful day later, all sped in the living part of Great Barrier Reef, in the warm shades on top of the boat, or downstairs eating in a pretty cold aircon, we fought our sleepyness and did a fourth jump into the ocean. This time to exchange sun rayes under clear, deep-blue waters and tiny fish of every color with black surroundings and giant tuna-like hunters and blue-eyed sharks making life dangerous for the smaller fish.
Then a last slice of cake before crawling into the narrow bunk beds.

  • More diving

    21. februar 2020, Great Barrier Reef ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

After an early morning watching steams of fish from under the suface as the ocean woke up, we had a couple of dives best described by terrible navigation, yet a turtle, a giant but dead clam, and hundreds of colorful fish grassing in the corals. At nighttime we saw a hermid crap walking in the sand and found THE turtle, trying not wake it up from our torches. A massive one sleeping in a cave not too far from the ship.Læs mere

  • Lazy time

    23. februar 2020, Australien ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

Playing it safe for the flight home we stayed on the boat the last day. Indoor with the cold air con, escaping the rain. Time for logbook, a normal book, pictures, and already dreams about the next trip and upgrading our equipment.
A long and quiet, yet shake boat ride and a nap later we were back on land, finding ourselves in a new kind of accommodation. Then nice dinner by the harbour and under an outdoor shade covering us from a heavy rain, compensating for the boat-meals.
The hotel came with breakfast, so we got up early to take full advantage of their buffet before an early flight home.
