YYC to SLC then a long drive

I managed to stay awake for the 6.25 hour drive from Salt Lake to Delores CO. Fun stop at target where I loaded up on snacks including a BIG BAG of twizzlers.

Horses, guns & weird shit in Cortez, CO

Up and at ‘em with my favourite private trail guide. Moe and I got along pretty well and western riding is so much easier and relaxing than English riding. Love neck reigning!
Got Clara’s errands done (banking and mailing a 39 pound box back home - $196 USD!). Then it was looking at weird stuff time at an antique corral - if one needed to source vintage stuff for a movie set, this is the place to go!
Then onto Rico, where Jack gave us a shotgun 101 session, and I fired two shots and hit my target both times and then I was done.
Dinner at the Enterprise, the 6th oldest watering hole in CO, and some bad pool playing then back to the apartment

Moab UT and rocks

So pretty. We said our goodbyes to Delores CO, Circle K Ranch and Jack and headed towards Utah. After checking into the hotel (yay!), and realizing it was smoking hot (115 at one point ), we braved driving into Arches National Park. Much like Joshua Tree National Park, you can drive through and get out and look at stuff. We did walk a bit around The Windows but my travel companion was hot and tired and sad so we didn’t do any real hiking.Leer más

Rocks, driving, beautiful forever

Clara did her best to catch up on sleep and we shared our breakfast table with a praying mantis. Always found them one of the creepier bugs out there. Not venomous but definitely a nipper.
With our destination of SAlt Lake Airport in mind, we went to Canyonlands National Park to look at the views.Leer más

Antelope Island State Park

Because we had not driven nearly enough, we headed north of SLC to the Great Salt Lake. Why not? Antelope Island State Park is worth the visit - we made it past the brine flies (eww) and I floated. Clara protested and claimed she didn’t float. Even though we rinsed off, the salt layer was still there. Floating or swimming here is Not a popular activity with the locals apparently and the lake has dried up a lot. Driving around this mock island (it totally connects to the mainland) was neat because it’s very yellow, and there are wild buffalo that are rounded up once a year. Lots of signs about staying clear of Bison!Leer más

A rubber match cribbage game before Clara boards to fly to Toronto to make her way to Uni at Queens. I have a fun trip to Denver and then onto Calgary. [edited to add the rubber match winner - moi!]
