Lipica (Lipizzano)

Walking through cool forest areas was a pleasant surprise for us today as we were expecting this high Karst area of limestone to be quite exposed and barren - the revegetated areas, made for great walking. The Lipica Horse Stud was quite a bizarre mix of magnificent gardens/fields and old run down hotel and casino. We attended a live equestrian show and tour but the real highlight was seeing over 100 Lipizzaner mares returning from the fields to their night stables - a truly beautiful sight.Read more
