Day 9 Smartno to Solkan

19km, 724 ascent, 610 descent,

We started our walk from the mediaeval village of Smartno in the tourist pearl of Brda - well know for it's excellent wines and cherry orchards. We continued up to the Sabotin Ridge to face 3 hours of scrambling across jagged loose rocks on the knife edge ridge, with a massive sheer rock face to the Soca River below. We managed to see a small Horn Nosed Viper (Slovenia's most poisonous snake) on the track.
When we finally arrive at the peak the war museum was closed so we took a short break soaking up the incredible views before tackling the ridiculously steep descent to Solkan which - see Stava profile below.
