• A Vida Doce - The Sweer Life!

    May 11 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 54 °F

Today is Saturday and I was finally able to catch up on some sleep! We started our day around 9am venturing to a pastry shop recommended by our AirBnb hosts. It didn’t disappoint!

Becky and I met 38 years ago in Rome when we were studying abroad as Juniors at LMU. One of our fondest memories was sitting in the gutter on Fat Tuesday sampling about 10 different pastries with powdered sugar all over our faces! We also frequented an “all-night bakery” which was a favorite for all of the American students in our study abroad program. Today we experienced the “all-day bakery.”

We shared a bunch of Portuguese favorites and made a plan for our day. We walked about 10 1/2 miles, visited churches, shopped, went to an amazing outdoor food market, the train station, museums, gardens, Mass at the Church of Carmo, took a wine tasting tour, watched the sunset, and ended with another great meal.

(Do I mention I consumed the remaining pastries for lunch and ended the day with a buttercream frosted cake? What about the sweet, delicious port we tasted on our wine tour? Sweet was an understatement for today.)

To some it up…Porto definitely depicts “The Sweet Life.”
