One of my most favorite books that I’ve read is The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck.

It begins with the famous opening line: “Life is difficult.” That sets the tone for a book that blends psychology, spirituality, and personal growth.

Peck, a psychiatrist, explores how personal growth and fulfillment come from discipline, responsibility, love, and grace.

Discipline - Growth requires work. Peck emphasizes delaying gratification, accepting responsibility, dedicating oneself to truth, and balancing.

Love – True love is not just a feeling but an action—extending oneself for the purpose of nurturing someone else’s growth.

Spiritual Growth – Peck argues that psychological health and spiritual development are deeply connected.

Grace – He introduces the concept of grace as a powerful, mysterious force that helps us grow and overcome obstacles.

I’d say that the Camino has been a road more traveled with each day we have tackled this journey. Each day dozens and dozens of pilgrims have joined the way. As Peck describes in this book, the Camino reflects how every person on this path is seeking spiritual growth and understanding of self and an opportunity to share love and kindness.

Today I have been touched by truth, beauty, and goodness of God. I’ve witnessed His grace in the sharing and exchange of encouragement between pilgrims, in the beauty of the trees and flowers, waterfalls and animals along the path, in the churches we’ve walked in and stunning homes we’ve walked by, and in the mysterious insights and random people and thoughts that have come to mind for me to stop and praise God for!

Life is difficult! M. Scott Peck is right on that! Surrendering to God makes the all the difference.

Tomorrow is our last day before we arrive at Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. I know I’m gonna be needing more grace to complete this journey. I am thanking God in advance for His grace is enough for me!
