    Yellowstone - Geyser Gazing

    7. september 2022, Forenede Stater ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

Our fourth day in Yellowstone - easy day on lungs and legs as hardly any elevation gain to be managed.

Started the day early (again) to catch the sunrise over the hills while walking the boardwalk in Upper Geyser Basin right next to our lodging.

Gorgeous light to take some pictures.

The Upper Geyser Basin is famous for hosting Old Faithful Geyser. The Upper Geyser Basin also boasts the largest concentration of geysers in the world, including many of the worlds largest geysers.

Five of the largest geysers are predicted by the Park Rangers. But some of them with quite a generous time window of up to +/- 90 minutes. Patience and dedication is required 😃

So why do geysers and hot springs exist in Yellowstone?
👆 Far below the surface of Yellowstone exists a magma chamber that super-heats the rocks and water above
👆The super-heated water returns to the surface through fractures and weaknesses in rock layers where it erupts as geyser or forms hot springs
👆While Yellowstone is a volcano, the last major eruption was 640,000 years ago
