On the Road Again

Last night we spent the night at our favorite overnight, Walmart, this time in Louisville TX right outside of Dallas. We were too tired to make it all the way to OK… We will see how far we make it today. We are now on our way to OK to have lunch and continue our drive to Kansas! Eric has a work day. This was a last minute decision to come here and I’m so glad we did! We basically have the whole park to ourselves. The most beautiful sunset ever! No wonder this place is called El Dorado!

This place is beautiful, we enjoyed looking at the geese and their babies. The playground was a God sent. We are wedged between three lakes and a river and got to enjoy the most fabulous weather!!!!

This place should be on everyone’s bucket list! It’s one of those thin places between heaven and earth. We came on a whim, with no reservations and there was just one spot left for the night!

We stayed an extra night at Palisade’s Sate Park and woke up extra early to visit the doctor with Summer Joy. Nothing major, just your typical toddler virus … anyway we got her medicine and got to spend some time in the city.Read more

Worst sleep in my life😨.The wind was so strong it kept me up a good part of the night I was so worried since one of the people camping here had their camper tipped over. My heart raced every time the bus rocked. But we woke up to the most spectacular rock formations and took a 6 mile hike. We came back to perfect weather and visited Wall Drug. Now we are gonna make burgers for dinner and wake up early tomorrow morning to go see Badlands National Park.Read more
TravelerWe had tornado when we were there camping…. And didn’t sleep much of that night either in the car. My hubby dumpster dived next morning for tent poles we could use to fix ours..

Oh the places you’ll go! The views just got better and better. We had a fantastic hike off the beaten path and my kids were like goats on the rocks! So fun… I wasn’t too far behind. We even saw a bullsnake on the trail eek!Read more

Custer Sate Park, SD

Yes, we are still in South Dakota. It is a place to slow down and enjoy fully. In my opinion Custer State Park should be a National Park, it is so big and beautiful and full of streams and waterfalls and animals! Our hikes have been so fun and we have collected so many rocks. On our first night Eric caught a fish and Silas and Samuel lit the fire and tended it so we could cook the fish! We all got a taste and went to bed happy. Our first full day here we did a nice 2 mile hike up and down the mountain and by the lake. The views were spectacular, then we had lunch and left to see Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. The rain and the fog prevented us from seeing the latter. The next day we did a six mile hike and crossed 16 streams and met up with a little kindergarten class and a God sent men crossing the children over the water! He helped me cross Summer Joy and came back to hold my hand through the slippery rocks! After lunch we did the Wild Life Loop and saw the bison!Read more

425 steps let’s go! This was our second hike of the day after a treacherous 2 mile hike on steep climbs and rocky hills at Custer state park. More on that later. We ended up our day by driving allll the way to Crazy Horse Monument only for it to be covered by the thickest blanket of fog, turned around and found the Mt. Rushmore brewing co and had a much deserved dinner, beer and fries!Read more

Buffalo, Wild Horses, Bunnies, Canyons, views and more views! Our stay here was short and seemed shorter because of the non stop rain. Once the sun came out we did a tiny hike along the Little Missouri River. We are gonna spend the night tonight at a brewery in Dickinson ND and hopefully pick up Summer Joy’s birth certificate in the A.M… cross your fingers and say your prayers!Read more

Last night we spent the night at Phat Fish Brewery thanks to Harvest Host. Seth has been sick so that hasn’t been fun. We visited the doctor in Rapid city and got antibiotics but his fever spiked up last night. Looked for a doctor high and low in ND but everything was closed. Hoping tonight is better and we are over the hill! Summer Joy’s birth certificate arrived this morning and we picked it up at the cutest post office ever in the town of Medora… we made it to Canada around 2 pm. Drove through Regina and stopped for ice cream at a cute nursery, now we are driving towards Banff to see how far we will make it!Read more

Sometimes the kids are just done! But honestly so am I! So after an exciting day of chasing documents and crossing borders we were in the mood for a great home cooked meal and rest. Since our data service was poopie and no harvest host were available Walmart came to the rescue. We bought beef, chicken, potatoes and broccoli and made yummy food. Played frisbee in the parking lot and went night night!Read more

Wow wow wow! 🤯 there is an overwhelming amount of natural beauty in this place. Had lunch and did a 4 mile hike to get the blood moving. Spotted a family of Elk and lots of groundhogs. About to make our favorite dinner and headed into town to see what we can see. So far we have been blessed with open spots to camp and have allowed the wind to take us where it will go! We are mesmerized by this place, we set out to do a hike and found Kicking Horse River, it is a glacier river that’s so cold only a couple of fish species can survive it. It is also the most beautiful shade of blue I’ve ever seen! Later we drove 16 mins to Lake Emerald and got there right as the crowds were leaving and the rain was starting, so we geared up for the rain and had the whole place to ourselves. It was so surreal. We had a great hike and headed back for dinner and bed!Read more

It’s Snowing! Columbia Icefield

Today we did a thing, an incredible experience to say the least. We booked an excursion to a glacier and a sky bridge, an experience of a lifetime. Maybe literally because scientists predict these glaciers will be gone in the next 30 to 50 years. We rode on these buses with giant tires and then got to walk on the glacier. We also got to drink glacier water 💦 so refreshing! Summer Joy found the ice to be specially good!Read more

Today we all woke up tired! No hiking for us. We took showers and while waiting for Eric to finish up we saw a Momma and a baby grizzly right next to the bus. The kids were playing outside and someone alerted them of the bear presence. The bigs grabbed the littles and run inside the bus. We videoed the baby playing and the momma doing momma things! So so amazing! We went into town, did our laundry and walked around. Did our grocery shopping, had lunch and a beer. Had ice cream and had THE saddest thing ever happen, Seth’s bike got stolen! Today we drove through majestic mountains, rivers and lakes. We hosted lunch on the side of the road at Muncho Lake. Arrived at Liard Hot Springs and set up for the night. It’s funny that a couple of days ago we were freezing in an iceberg and today we are enjoy the most beautiful hot springs! Seth and Stephanie stayed behind to make a glorious dinner of orzo pasta. Teslin and the Yukon Territory

We are in the Yukon territory and driving through the mountains and lakes and rivers. We have seen so much wildlife, tons of bears, bison,a golden eagle, and a porcupine… stopped at an RV park (gasp) for a much needed shower as our water pump broke on day one and we have skipped one to many showers. Be glad pictures are not smelly! lol 🤪 Also check out the time stamp on the map! The sun doesn’t set until almost midnight! Crazy stuff!Read more

This is an adventure to say the least! Each day we wake up and think, where to? We landed in paradise tonight I’m sure. The only hiccup we had was getting stuck in the sand and having a bit of a freak out moment! Thank God Stephanie and Scott were with us and saved the day! They pulled us out! There was much cheering and rejoicing. Dinner was fantastic, we have been so spoiled. We only have ten more hours before getting to Anchorage, that is in car years as Eric likes to call them. It will be more like two more days in bus years :)Read more

Had a fantastic lunch of fish and chips and tried to go do a glacier tour but the road was treacherous and the price was not right! So we took a picture from the road and on we went!
