Varna

After a sleepless night spent in the kitchen of our Plovdiv hostel, we walked to catch our early morning train to Varna. Turns out it's a rather old Soviet train, and as we couldn't book first class tickets, we were stuck in the second class cabins with no AC. The train was incredibly hot (like a sauna), got very full and was two hours late, but we were very happy to arrive in Varna. We were lucky enough to add an extra day onto our airbnb, where we began the long process of hot washing all our clothes (again). For the first couple of days here, we just slept, did some life admin and went for short walks to the beach and Sea Garden Park. Today we finally got some sightseeing in, with a visit to the Retro Museum which is full of cars and items from the communist period in Bulgaria. It was very interesting to see the toys, appliances and clothing from the communist period, but also interesting to see that it hasn't really changed a lot today. We spent the rest of our week in Varna relaxing at the beach or Sea Garden, in between planning the rest of our trip. Next stop, Romania!Weiterlesen
