Forgot to mention, I saw 5 otters today, 2 were little ones with their parent. Also saw a doe and a small fawn, more ducks and ducklings than I could count, numerous herons, a bunch of them were juveniles. Also saw the pink bird that I would love help identifying. I startled a bunch of wild hogs too, saw I came around a fallen tree and they busted into the brush squealing for all they were worth. I didn't see them, but I saw the mess they were making. These were just the memorable sightings. Goodnight all. Here's two more pics of the bird.Read more

    June 24, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

It is such a beautiful morning. Fish are jumping, the sun is shining, and I am so glad that I got the opportunity to experience this. I'm excited to see what today has in store. I'll keep you updated

  • Lunch day 4

    June 24, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

So as I was paddling, I was looking for a place to stop and eat lunch. I saw this picnic table and realized it was the place. I've came 7.5 miles so far as have 15 to go still. It's a perfect day for paddling, the sun is out, a gentle breeze helps to quell the heat, and I couldn't be more blessed.Read more

  • Camp day 4

    June 24, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

So I've finally made it to camp. I'm exhausted! The first 7 miles this morning were pleasant, but around 12 someone turned on the wind. It wouldn't have been so bad on the river, but these long straight stretches of lake just funnel the wind. I hurt in places I didn't know I had. Needless to say, I'll sleep hard tonight. Dinner tonight will be mashed taters and deer burger. I'm going to try to find the energy to set up my hammock. Pics to follow.... I only have 1 bar of service so no pics tonight. I got some really good ones today though. I can't wait to share them. I didn't realize until today that I forgot to bring sunscreen. Can you say broiled lobster? Only 142 miles to go!Read more

  • Logs

    June 25, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

I can't believe how many logs are floating. These power boats must keep several spare props handy. They race up and down the lake like it's nothing. I've hit several submerged logs that I couldn't see even going as slow as I am.

The advice was in reference to daylight without fog. I haven't seen anyone out this morning

  • Wind is back

    June 25, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

About 20 til 10 the wind kicked up again. Boy am I glad I started early this morning.. I'm going straight across this. The waves are being pushed up about 1.5 feet towards the middle.

  • No cover

    June 25, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Going without a cover tonight. Not supposed to be any rain so I'll go without my tarp. I'll have it ready in case I need it though. Just me and the stars tonight

  • So... What's for lunch?

    June 25, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Chicken fried rice from Peking buffet and a&w root beer. Sounds delicious if you ask me. Especially seeing as it's the first I've eaten today. I skipped breakfast to get on the water earlier and believe me, I don't regret that decision. As you can see from the smoke, the wind is blowing pretty good as I'm glad I'm not still fighting against it. I only had to fight it for 2 hours today. I'll be glad to be back on the river tomorrow.

I love this little rocket stove, a handful of twigs and you have boiling water in less than 5 minutes.

  • Breakfast

    June 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Hash browns with ham and cheese. The water is smooth and enticing. Can't wait to start the day. It will be my first time going through a lock

  • Cordell Hull lock

    June 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

The lockmaster said I was his first kayak to ever lock through. It's 400 get long and drops you 60 feet in 12 minutes. It was really cool. On to old hickory....
