Dahab Day 2
October 2, 2025 in Egypt ⋅ 🌙 29 °C
Today was our last full day in Dahab and it definitely delivered.
We started the morning around 8:30am with breakfast at the hotel. The options were a bit slim, but we made the most of it with freshly made omelettes and some sweet potato an interesting combo, but surprisingly tasty. Once we were fuelled up, we met the rest of our group in the lobby to kick off the day’s big adventure.
We jumped into a minivan and drove about 30 minutes down the coast to one of Egypt’s most iconic dive sites, the Blue Hole! Nestled along the Red Sea coastline, the Blue Hole is a world famous underwater sinkhole created by a meteorite that crashed here and is known for its deep vertical drop and incredibly rich marine life. While it's a legendary (and sometimes dangerous) dive site for scuba divers, it's also a perfect snorkelling spot and that’s exactly what we came for.
Once we arrived, we got changed and made our way into the warm, crystal clear water. The snorkelling was next level, vibrant coral, colourful fish darting around us, and visibility that felt endless. Jayde was right in his element here and we both had so much fun!
After our first snorkel, we took a break in the sun with a round of fresh mango juice (the juices here are insane!) and Jayde grabbed a quick pizza. We rested up for a bit before heading back in for round two, this time snorkelling in the opposite direction. The reef was just as stunning the second time, and we soaked in every moment we could!
By around 1pm, we wrapped things up and headed back to the hotel. The afternoon was all about chill time. We found a couple of loungers and spent some time just soaking in the sun, completely relaxed.
Later, we showered off the salt and sand and got ready for dinner. Tonight’s spot was a local gem our guide recommended. It was the kind of restaurant where everyone eats outside on the street, and you know the food’s going to be good just from the atmosphere. I ordered the lamb shank, and Jayde went for the half duck. Both dishes were incredible!!! So rich, tender, full of flavour and the portions were huge. That seems to be the norm around here! And the best part? Dinner plus two fresh juices only set us back about $30 NZD in total. Absolute win.
After dinner, we wandered up the road and stopped in at a little local cafe for some tea and coffee. Eventually, the group split off, and Jayde and I did a final wander through the shops before grabbing some snacks from the supermarket and heading back to the hotel.
Now, bags are packed and alarms are set. It’s an early 5:30am start tomorrow as we’re flying to Cairo! Pyramids, here we come!Read more
