• Crossed the boarder to Montenegro!

    14. oktober 2025, Montenegro ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

We were up before the sun today, 6:15am to be exact. Not usually our preferred wake up time, but when travel is calling, somehow it feels a bit easier to roll out of bed. Bags were already half
packed the night before, so we just had to eat a quick breakfast, finish getting ourselves together, and hop in a taxi bound for the bus station.

By 7:30, we were already there early for once! With plenty of time to spare, we took the chance to call home and catch up with the family. Although I haven’t felt homesick yet, calls home at this point of the trip have been feeling a little more emotional. We start talking about things we will do when we are home and get excited about seeing all these people we love which all seem so close yet still a while away. Also I just really miss my dog.

Soon after, we boarded our bus. Surprisingly, there were only three other passengers, which made for a quiet, spacious ride a real treat when you’re used to packed transport and elbow shoving for more room. Today’s route was taking us southward into our 13th country, Montenegro! It felt like a bit of a milestone 13 countries in, and still excited for each new border crossed.

The journey itself took around five hours, weaving through some pretty incredible scenery. As we got closer to the Montenegrin coast, the mountains started to rise around us, and glimpses of the sea started peeking through. It’s hard to explain, but there’s a moment when you know you’re entering somewhere special, and we both felt it as we neared Kotor.

Arriving in Kotor we were greeted by dramatic landscapes towering mountains that drop right into the bay and water that shimmers in deep blues and greens. This little seaside town is going to be home for the next five days and honestly, we couldn't have picked a better place to catch our last taste of the coast before heading inland.

Our apartment is a charming little spot simple, cozy, and just a short walk from everything we’ll need. After checking in and offloading our bags (sweet relief), we took a walk to the local supermarket to grab supplies for dinner and the next few days. There’s something oddly satisfying about grocery shopping in a new country picking up familiar items alongside random ones you can’t quite identify but decide to try anyway.

Back at the apartment, we cooked up some homemade hamburgers which tasted way better than they had any right to after a day of travel. They definitely hit the spot.

Tomorrow, we’re off on a boat tour of the Bay of Kotor. The plan is to soak up every last bit of the coast’s crystal clear waters before we’ll be heading inland for the remainder of the trip.
