• Our first day exploring Kotor

    15. oktober 2025, Montenegro ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We kicked off our first day in Kotor with a welcome change we finally gave the yogurt and muesli a break and made poached eggs on toast for breakfast. Simple, but so satisfying. A good breakfast always sets the tone, and this one definitely did.

Our Airbnb is just outside the main town, tucked along the edge of the bay. Honestly, it's perfect. The 30 minute walk into town winds right along the water’s edge, with mountains towering above and tiny stone jetties poking out into the still, clear water. It was such a peaceful way to start our morning soaking in the sunshine and enjoying the views .

On the way in, we stopped at a little shopping centre to poke around. Nothing fancy, but a few shops to explore, and it gave us a chance to stretch the morning out. Not long after, we spotted a massive cruise ship docked just outside the Old Town a reminder that what feels like a small and hidden place is definitely on the map.

Then we stumbled into Kotor Old Town and wow it’s like walking into a fairytale. Narrow stone alleyways twist and turn under archways, past hidden courtyards, cats lounging in doorways, and historic churches around nearly every corner. The old city walls climb up the mountain behind the town, and everywhere you look feels like it’s straight out of a postcard.

We didn’t have long to wander, though as we had a boat tour booked for 12, so we grabbed a quick bite and made our way to the port.

Once we checked in, we hopped aboard a small boat and set off across the bay. First stop the submarine tunnels, secret passages carved into the rock, once used to hide submarines from spy planes. It felt like something out of a movie dark, echoey, and very cool.

From there, we cruised out to the Blue Cave where the water glows the most unreal shade of blue thanks to the sunlight bouncing off the sea floor. Although not quite as spectacular as the blue cave we saw in Croatia, it was still very cool.

Our final stop was Our Lady of the Rocks a tiny man made island with a church and museum in the middle of the bay. It is one of the oldest man made islands and is the most visited site in Montenegro. Today, it’s peaceful, picturesque, and surrounded by nothing but blue water and mountain views.

We got back to the port around 3pm and started the walk home, soaking up the late afternoon sun. On the way, we stopped at a little waterfront bar for a drink the view was impeccable and it made us lose track of what time it was.

Back at the Airbnb, we made stuffed potatoes for dinner comfort food at its finest as the weather has most definitely started to cool down. We then curled up in bed with Peaky Blinders and a hot cup of tea. Honestly, not a bad way to end the day.
