• Our last day in Montenegro

    18 oktober 2025, Montenegro ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Our final day in Montenegro was quiet and slow the kind of day that lets you soak up the last bits of a place before saying goodbye.

The weather was a repeat of yesterday mostly overcast, with the sun making occasional appearances between the clouds. We started our morning with a walk along the waterfront into Kotor, one of our favourite things to do here. The stillness of the water and the dramatic mountain backdrop never gets old!

Once we got into town, we decided to walk the ancient city walls. It’s amazing how much history is built into this place. We followed the walls as far as we could before reaching a point you had to pay 15 euro each if you wanted to continue. We figured we had seen a lot of ancient walls and castles on our trip so decided to give it a miss.

After that, we found ourselves back in the old town. And somehow (not entirely by accident), we ended up in front of the custard square shop again…….. oooops. Obviouslyyyyyy we couldn’t resist. One last custard square for tradition’s sake, let’s just say. Honestly, they’re dangerously good. We’ll be dreaming about them. Sorry Nan and Pop you’ll probably also keep hearing me talk about them once I’m home.

After another slow wander through the town’s winding alleys, Jayde decided it was time for a haircut. We found a spot nearby, and while he was getting trimmed, I sat by the water, just taking it all in. When he came out, he looked like a million bucks and ready for the next leg of the journey.

Not long after, the clouds finally gave in. We made it back home just in time, and as soon as we stepped inside, the skies opened up and it poured. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

We had a late lunch while listening to the rain, then spent some time writing in the postcards we’ve been collecting. For each one, we’ve been writing our favorite memory or thing about every place we've visited. It been such a nice way to reflect.

Then came the final packing session (always a bit of a puzzle), before cooking up a cozy dinner of steak and potatoes. Simple, satisfying, and the perfect end to our Montenegrin chapter.

Tomorrow, we’re off to our 13th country Hungary.

    Budapest, we’re coming for you!
