Cable Cars and Coasters
17. oktober 2025, Montenegro ⋅ 🌧 14 °C
This morning started off a bit grey and overcast, and we weren’t expecting much. It looked like the kind of day that could go either way maybe a bit of drizzle, maybe just staying in and laying low. But as it turned out, the weather held up beautifully. No rain, no wind, and by mid-morning, it was actually really pleasant. With the skies clearing and a bit of unexpected luck on our side, we decided to make the most of it and head up the mountain.
On the agenda the cable car and the alpine coaster!
We fuelled up with some breakfast, then set off on foot for a walk into town along the water. It was a quiet and peaceful start to the day cool but not cold, with just enough sun peeking through to give us hope. Once we got to the bus station, we jumped on the shuttle that takes you out to the base of the cable car.
After scanning our tickets, we hopped into the next available gondola, and the ride began.
We started climbing… and climbing… and climbing. It felt like it just kept going higher and higher, until it felt like we were floating above everything. My ears even started to pop from the altitude. The view from up there was absolutely unreal you could see all the way back to the water, with layers of hills and valleys rolling out in every direction. It was one of those moments where you just sit back and go, wow.
When we reached the top and stepped out, the first thing we noticed was the temperature drop it was so much colder than we expected! No snow, but definitely a chilly mountain breeze. We had a quick look around, wandered through a few little shops, and then decided to do a short hike up to a viewing platform. The view from there made the climb totally worth it fresh air, wide open space, and that unbeatable feeling of being way above the world.
And then… it was time for the alpine coaster.
If you’ve never been on one, imagine a mix between a rollercoaster and a luge. It’s a single track that winds down the side of the mountain, and you ride in a two person cart where you control the speed with hand brakes. I sat in front, Jayde behind me, and we took off. We went so fast flying through corners, dipping down slopes, laughing the whole way, at one point I thought we were about to fly off the rails! Dad, this would have been right up your alley, you would have loved it!
After the ride, we grabbed hot chocolates to warm up and took in the view one last time before heading back down in the cable car. It was just as beautiful going down as it was on the way up.
By the time we got home, it was already close to 3 p.m., so we made a late lunch and caught up on some washing. The afternoon slipped by, and before we knew it, it was dinner time. We kept it low key with some leftover pasta, had hot showers, and then got cosy in bed finishing the day with (of course) another couple of episodes of Peaky Blinders!
All in all, a day that started with cloudy skies turned into another epic adventure. Tomorrow is our last day in Montenegro before we head to Budapest!Læs mere
