Ice axe at the ready. Have you needed to use it much? Or it's just in case you need to arrest yourself from a slide?
TravelerI've only used it once, on Mather Pass. I wanted something more sturdy than a trekking pole to lean on coming down. I didn't feel a slip was likely so not needed for a possible self-arrest/belay so far
