Ice axe at the ready. Have you needed to use it much? Or it's just in case you need to arrest yourself from a slide?
ViajeroI've only used it once, on Mather Pass. I wanted something more sturdy than a trekking pole to lean on coming down. I didn't feel a slip was likely so not needed for a possible self-arrest/belay so far
ViajeroThat’s the way to do it, that hot chocolate must be so comforting after an experience like that 😀

ViajeroSince you are up above timber-line, I think that’s a Ptarmigan. They are in the same family but grouse stay low. Ptarmigan feathers will go white before winter sets in.
