Ice axe at the ready. Have you needed to use it much? Or it's just in case you need to arrest yourself from a slide?
PengembaraI've only used it once, on Mather Pass. I wanted something more sturdy than a trekking pole to lean on coming down. I didn't feel a slip was likely so not needed for a possible self-arrest/belay so far

I was working with old information. The 4:45pm ferry I was gunning for now leaves at 3:45pm. I missed it by 15 minutes.
As luck would have it, an older gentleman on the JMT also missed it but wasBaca lagi

PengembaraSince you are up above timber-line, I think that’s a Ptarmigan. They are in the same family but grouse stay low. Ptarmigan feathers will go white before winter sets in.
