• Afternoon Tea @ Cici

    My father had two siblings … a sister and a brother. Today, we were hosted for afternoon tea by Serpil, my aunt’s daughter-in-law, now-widowed.

    Serpil is known amongst the family as “Cici” … which roughly translates as sweet/nice in English … it’s a nickname Aylin gave her when she was little more than a toddler.

    At our request, Serpil made “damat paçası,” a dish that was brought to Turkey by the populace that emigrated here from the Balkan countries. It’s made with phyllo leaves, shredded chicken, and a special bechamel-type sauce. Of course, she didn’t stop there … she never does.
