Back in Sydney after 28 years

First action: Change clothes, 28 degrees today!
Sydney is such a cool city. 28 years ago the sky tower was about the tallest building. Today it almost dissapears between all the new buildings nearby the waterfront (including one of the fanciest building from Credit Suisse).
The Holiday Inn Hotel 🏨 at the Rocks in Old Sydney is just aussumn! Every place in downtown is within walking distance. From the room I can see the whole skyline and at the roof top we have a spectacular 360 degree view including the Sydney Opera house and all of this from the outdoor pool 🏊‍♀️ 👍.Leia mais

Jogging in Sydney

Early weak-up in the morning and getting ready for a morning jogging round to the Opera house and the famous Sydney botanic garden. So cool to take a swim on the roof after jogging and see the Opera house right out of the pool and Jacuzzi!! Beautiful! Will do on Monday again!Leia mais

Sydney

Spent the whole day in Sydney downtown. Using a bus tour to get to the spots we wanted to go in the first half of the day. After long we visited the Sea Life Sydney again with the kids. My favorite still remains the New England Aquarium in Boston. In the afternoon we seperated and everyone followed their personal interest. Woman went shopping, I walked the city and Marc chilled in the Hotel room 🤠.
In the evening we met Norbert and Tammy for a Thai dinner in downtown. They relocated back to Sydney in 2017 after living in Zurich for 17 years. Interesting discussions about Sydney. It changed so much over the last decades! It became really big and it got spoiled by Asian tourists and immigrants. The harbor bridge and the Opera house are atill the same. That is about it! But it‘s still a nice city with many places to go.Leia mais

Another day in Sydney

Today we enjoyed breakfast for the second time in a little french restaurant just around the corner from the Hotel. Afterwards we went to a ride on a Catamaran in Sydney harbor. It brought us to Sydney Torangi zoo where we spent a couple of hours. We learned a lot about all the Australian animals but now we look forward to see them in pure nature soon. Ok, I don‘t mind if we don‘t meet a salty soon at the beach north of Cairns...
At night Sydney opera house turned into many beautiful colors.Leia mais

Travelling from Sydney to Cairns

After another beautiful jogging 🏃 round shortly after sunrise and a last visit to our favorite french Cafe „la Renaissance“ at the rocks it was time to get ready for the next travel to Cairns. Thanks to Uber which brought us to the Airport at 40% of the cost of the regular cab service... Enjoyed an ontime flight with unlimited free Wifi during the entire flight! Thanks to Virgin Australia 🇦🇺. After check-in in the Hotel we had dinner at the Esplanade in Cairns. Fiona shared a Crocodile 🐊 steak with Mama. The extra sharp steak nife was really necessary to cut this tough meat into pieces 🤠.Leia mais

Cape Tribulation

Today we went for a day trip to Cape Tribulation. Cape Tribulation is about 180km north of Cairns within Daintree Nationalpark 🏞. The first hour on the bus brought us to Mossman Gorge.
After getting an introduction on some rituals from a native Australian we walked through the beautiful rainforest to the Gorge. The rainforest really made it‘s name by some heavy tropical showers while walking.
At the second bus stop we went on a boat for a ride on Daintree river to see the oldest rainforest on earth from the waterside. We also spotted some very rare birds, learned more about all the mangroves and we also saw quite a few salt water crocodiles 🐊 from 60cm up to almost 5 meters in length.
For lunch we stopped at a rainforest resort nearby Cape Tribulation followed by another walk through the rainforest to a nice sandy beach. Unfortunately no swimming bacause of crocodiles and potential box jelly fishes in the water.Leia mais

Swimming, Waterfalls and Rainforest

Today we are going to explore some swimming in natural lakes in the mountains south of Cairns. After a one hour drive we arrived at Babinda Boulders. A very nice Gorge, several waterfalls and waterwashed rocks in the river. Too early for me to swim 🏊‍♂️. Next stop will bring us to Josephine Falls. Again nice waterfalls but too dangerous to swim here because of 60mm rainfall last night.
Now on the road for Millaa Millaa falls. Wow - very beautiful 20m waterfall in the middle of the rainforest. Went for a refreshing swim in front of the waterfall.
Lunch was served nearby Millaa Millaa in a funny old pub. In the afternoon we visited an Australian farm and before heading back to Cairns a beautiful lake (Lake Echam) which was formed in the crater of an inactive Volcano..Leia mais

Snorkling in the outer Barrier reef

The last day at the east coast we spent on a Catemaran at the edge of the continental shelf in the outer Barrier reef. We were snorkling on three different reef sites and had seen quite some fishes and big turtles 🐢. But compared to 28 years ago the reef looks about like a cemetary. Still nice but with lots of dead corals. Unfortunately no scuba diving for me today because we will fly to Perth in the evening. Hope the cat will bring us back to Cairns on time 😬.Leia mais
