A walking tour of Sofia

We packed and had breakfast at the hotel before getting a 10.30 bus to Sofia for a walking tour. The 90-minute drive was rather more interesting in the sunshine and we saw the mountains and beautiful forests as we drove our tour guide gave us a super potter history of Bulgaria from Byzantine times, before we disembarked at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

We had time to wander insider before walking down the yellow brick road past the Parliament building, former royal residence, ancient ruins of the old city and presidential building. The guide was superb, laying out the history of the city and its place in wider empires and showing how it developed up to today. The underground open museum of ruins seems far more developed than when we last visited and is remarkably intact.Baca lagi
