Into Crete this morning, and whilst we've visited the island before we'd not visited Chania. Over breakfast, we were treated to a show as the cargo ship docked opposite comprehensively failed to get their lines secured! Virgin had put on a complimentary shuttle bus from the port of Souda to the town of Chania, and from the off it was clearly going to be a bloody hot day. At the Sabbionara Bastion, we saw a great exhibition projecting Chania through time, before popping into the Ancient Maritime Museum. This smallish museum had some interesting displays on how ships were made and the different types. By the time we got out, the sun was beating down and we got very hot walking to the lighthouse of Chania. The venetian port was beautiful, both viewed from the lighthouse and up close. By the time we rounded the actual port we were absolutely ready to sit in the shade and have a drink! Wandering the shops afterwards, I got a lovely pair of Little Prince earrings and a concrete penguin.Leggi altro
