Day 4: Sunrise Dolphins, Ziplines, & Connection

The day began with a walk to the river in darkness so we could see the sunrise from the water. While the clouds resulted in a muted sky, we were visited repeatedly by pink dolphins!!! The other couple in the boat slept while I felt like I had a personal visit from my aquatic friends. It was a magical way to start the day.
After a nap and breakfast, we headed out to climb some trees, zip line through the canopy, and swing back down to terra firma. I’d forgotten how fun that is, and got to nerd out while waiting my turn in the treetops. 💚
After lunch I said goodbye to lodge life and headed back to Iquitos, soaking up every moment on the water, and once again being visited by dolphins. My tuk-tuk ride was a white-knuckles, eyes-closed, I should tell my mom I love her sort of ride and I was very grateful to be dropped off at my hotel once again! There I met up with others on our research team who had arrived while I was up-river. We shared a rainstorm and a meal and began to get to know each other, looking forward to the next phase of this adventure. Tomorrow the rest arrive…
Oh, a friend shared a video of the frolicking gray dolphins from yesterday. No, I was not swimming when they went by, I was standing in the river just out of the frame. Now before you feel badly that I “missed out,” know that: 1) I was full of joy. 2) 3 of those 5 people were not able to eat dinner last night & 1 left before dinner so who knows. 3) At least one of them puked their guts out all night.
